Race report and results - 26th February 2026 -Italian Cars (Grande Corse) -

Five of our club members couldn’t get to the club tonight but the welcome return of Geoff, Brian & Matthew we still had a dozen racers, Standard, Modified, Prostock and Open class cars, four class winners, a jump start that was actually the fastest reaction time we’ve ever seen and a post-race award of the ‘50p Trophy’.

Whilst going round the room recording what everyone is racing for the evening it’s always interesting to see cars in bits, being tuned, fixed, checked over, borrowed, sold, or just being shown to other club members.
This isn’t just racing, it’s a social event with lots of banter, laughing and joking, story telling and catching up over the week or months in some cases.

Three groups of four racers racing each other in their separate groups:
 - Matthew, Jack, Brian H, Paul
 - Mike, Geoff, Chris, Macaulay
 - Jamie, Brian L, Andy, Kev
Matthew, Jack & Brian H got the ball rolling tonight with a couple of Standard Scalextric cars and a resin bodied Fly car.  Jack won the heat, followed by Matthew with Brian H half a lap behind.
With four Standard Class cars raced by Mike, Jack, Matthew and Brian H, one was bound to end up a class winner.

Two Modified Class cars meant a class win for either Kev or Jack
.
Four Open Class cars would see a winner between Andy, Jamie (two cars) and Brian L.

The lion’s share of the cars were Prostock Class with fourteen entrees.

Reaction time perfection…
Normally, reaction times are in the 0.5 second range, that’s how long it takes to cross the timing strip after the race starter says ‘GO!’.
Heat 3 of the second event, Brian, Jamie & Kev, all jump-started…or thought they did.  Brian’s reaction time was 0.276 of a second, Jamie’s was 0.132 of a second while Kev’s was 0.023 of a second, crossing the timing strip whilst the lights were turning green.

The three groups seemed nicely matched so the same groups raced in the second event but mixed up a bit.
.
As for marshalling, there was some great racing to watch which is to be expected with such a wide variety of car types.
…it was also great to hear “I’m coming for ya Priest’y” again.

‘50p Trophy’...
Brian wanted to award the ‘50p Trophy’ to Geoff but there was too much going on and people were leaving, so well done Geoff for driving so well after such a long layoff.
