I didn't notice any performance increase so didn't bother after my first trials.  Personally I don't think the 'gains' make any difference on hard plastic cars but probably noticeable on different classes like ISRA.

You balance by either removing material from the heavy side or adding weight to the light side.

I made one like is in this video by James Cleave who's a world championship finalist
