How I read the 2027 proposals is that Rally1 WRC cars will retain a space frame chassis, but run with Rally2-spec engines, transmission and brakes under a much-reduced cost cap. Rally2 regs remain the same.

This is how DirtFish summarised the Rally1 proposals, which are likely to be rubber stamped by the FIA this week...

   

I'm not sure it will tempt in new manufacturers, but those already invested in Rally2 programmes might tie up with a specialist motorsport company as in the Ford / M-Sport model? Maybe the return of Prodrive to the WRC?
