Race results and report - 18th July 2024 - Club GT40 followed by F1
.
Last week with only the three of us racing we set the track at 12V to reduce deslots and found the cars were easier to drive and the racing was more enjoyable...so we left it like that during pre-race practice and found the cars were marginally slower but easy to drive. We decided to leave the track set at 12V for the racing also.

.
Initial driver lineups were randomised by the computer so we had Kev, Brian & Chris in one group and Andy, Mike B & Ed in the other.
.
Heat #2 was close with Andy and Mike B finishing only 3 seconds apart.
Heat #6 was even closer as Mike B finished only 2 seconds ahead of Ed with Andy only 1 second further back.
.
The Yellow GT40 was the easiest to race hard, the Red GT40 was also easy but the Blue car had an unpleasant rear end snatch when transitioning from right to left handers i.e. chicanes. This meant having to manage the pace when racing that car with a few deslots to remind you.
.
The overall spread was much closer at the end. When we last raced these, the top three cars were separated by six laps...tonight that was just over one lap.
The total spread last time over the five drivers that raced was fifteen laps...tonight that was six laps...so I think it would be a good idea to keep the track at 12V for all but the NSR Mosler Challenges (which are raced at 11V).
.
F1
.
All but one F1 was an NSR F1, Kev decided to bring an old 'Standard Class' car the kind of which we saw before NSR brought the F1 out...his SCX Minardi still competitive albeit now classified as a 'Modified Class' car.
.
Standard Class
Lap times again were slightly down but the racing was again closer. Andy’s NSR has been the one to catch in this class since day 1 and wasn’t put under pressure tonight. Brian’s F1 finished half way between Andy’s F1 and the chasing trio of Mike B, Ed & Chris. This trio finished less than two laps apart with Ed’s NSR finishing ahead of Chris’s but behind Mike B’s NSR. Chris has a sticky guide to fix for next time as it lost him a fair bit of time as marshals had to turn the car over to straighten the guide before being able to relocate the car back on track.
.
Modified Class
Kev’s SCX Minardi did much better than he expected and finished with a very good score between the top two NSR’s
.
At the end of the night Mike B said “I like this racing at 12V”...so that’s what we’ll do going forwards apart from the NSR Mosler Club Challenge races.
The idea was originally sparked by a comment Chris said after the last TV & Film car night when he said the lights start to fail when you go over 12V, so it’ll also do those cars a favour as you get bonus laps for lights.
