FB Marketplace delivers the goods again.
The 1992 Bathurst Winfield Nissan Skyline was just yelling 'Buy me' when I spotted it. It was an ex-club car, running mag-less and fitted with a vac-formed interior. It was just the ticket for the Saloon/Touring car class at the club and fell right in my price range - 'Used - but not destroyed!'
As an afterthought I asked the seller if he still had the original interior. Luckily he did and threw it in for the asking price. The running gear is all good. I just maxed out the track and dropped the front end as low as I could. Body-wise I didn't notice at first but the rear clip heat-melted fastening had popped. No big deal and an easy fix.
Harder was getting the vac-formed interior out then removing the original Slot.it driver from it for re-use in the original hard plastic interior. Goodness knows what adhesive had been used but it was a bit of a beggar! The windows had all been nice and firmly cemented in place so it was finally just a case of the usual wash and polish, the latter clearing up the little bit of clouding that inevitably occurs, before re-assembly.
Bonus was that my wife recognised and liked it immediately. We're both long-term fans of Bathurst
The seller sent through a few photos of other cars he was going to part with and the Alfa caught my eye. It doesn't really fit in any of the club's classes but I just loved the look of it. Glad we struck a deal on it as it's something quite different to my usual cars. It came with a set of Scalextric plastic front wheels and ribbed tyres, which were quickly switched out for something more in keeping. The random assortment of chassis and body screws were replaced with proper Slot.it's and the front ride height adjusted using grub screws from the parts box. (It came with a make-do plastic tube 'spacer' above the metal axle, giving it a nose-high/tail down attitude.) A little of the rear end gearbox/suspension detail had broken, presumably in transit - but it was there and easily fixed with GS Hypo cement. Finally it was all given a good clean and a wax polish.
Love it
