Just had an O.M.G. moment with an early Scalextric set.
A local auction house listed five Scalextric Lots and a couple had caught my eye. The one that mainly interested me was for a Jaguar D-Type CM3 set. I decided to bid on-line so did not have anything other than the house photographs which showed a tatty box with the two cars present plus a jumble of card bridge supports and some fences. The rubber track looked in reasonable condition for age and included the metal edged bridge section that I have wanted for a long time. This one looked pretty good. I could not see the controllers but those were of little interest. The blue and green Jaguars looked pretty good also.
Anyway I won the sale and today went and collected the set. Everything matched my expectations and I was pleased with the price. I found the controllers underneath the cardboard surround for their box location and then lifted the cardboard section above which holds the bridge parapet sections. O.M.G - underneath was this fabulous C7 Mini. The label on the box identifies it as a "Scalextric" product rather than the very early ones which state Mini-Models (or sim).
Auction listing made no mention of the Mini so I guess they didn't spot it.
With some NSR oil applied to the motor bearings it runs fairly well..
Jaguars have been "boxed" (in the F1 way), needing attention to braids and motors.
The little bottle of Shell oil is present and half-full.
