GT Raceways Friday Open Meeting 28th April SW Classics and Pre 67 Sports/GT cars.
Andy is busy with the builders in, so I offered to write up a summary of the Friday meeting for Slot Racer.
Once a month on the last Friday, as well as the weekly Monday evening GT Raceways club meeting there is an open event at the Battlesbridge track which has 2 classes from the following,
Slot It Group C
SW Classics (Fly, Thunderslot, NSR & Slot It)
Racer Group 5
And now the pre 67 sports GT class.
Rules

Doors open at 9:30am and racing starts at 10:30, a stop for lunch and usually concludes by 3:00pm. Due to the vast majority of the attendees being retired the event is run during the day so that those travelling from the far corners of Essex can get home at a reasonable time and Friday suits availability.
First session was SW Classics with an entry of 10 cars so a mixed field of NSR 908s, Thunderslot McLaren A,B & Elva, & Lola’s, Slot It GT40, Matra’s, & Alfa Romeo fighting it out in 20 lap heats. These cars are virtually box stock with only minor mods allowed i.e. front tyres are free choice.
Results from the heats was victory for Steve with his Slot It Alfa Romeo, followed by Graeme with a Slot It Matra, Conale with a Slot It GT 40 and myself with a Thunderslot McLaren in 4th. Racing was very tight with only 0.17 seconds between the top 4 drivers with a fastest lap time by Conal at 8.20 seconds from a range of lap times going up to 9.18 seconds.
In the A final, victory for Steve. Conal moved to 2nd Graeme dropped to 3rd and I came 4th.
Short break and the afternoon session was Pre 67 Sports GT.
This new class allows much more freedom for cars i.e. any make, either resin, injection moulded, or 3dp. Chassis’ can be injection moulded, resin, brass & piano wire or 3dp. Motors limited to 25K rpm S can or 22.5K rpm Flat 6 and wheels & tyres kept within the profile of the body other wise free. Most cars were using the Flat 6 either the 22.5K rpm S or the 22K R with gearing ranging from 9:24 to 9:27 or 10:25 to 10:28 and much use of the 1mm offset cogs from Slot It.
Mix of Ninco, MRRC, Pink Kar, George Turner and 3dp cars.
Heats run over 15 laps due to time constraints and 2nd victory for Steve using a Ninco XK 120 with a 3dp JS Chassis using a Slot It pod and Flat 6 motor. Graeme 2nd with a Ninco Cobra 427 with a 3dp WSR chassis and Slot It pod, ditto Nigel 3rd with a similar car. Myself in 4th with a 3dp JS chassis and 3dp 427 Cobra shell. Best lap time was set by Steve at 9.16 seconds, from a range going up to 11.30 seconds demonstrating that as a new class some cars were dialled in better than others.
The A final was won by Steve to complete a clean sweep of the day, followed by Graeme, Nigel and myself.
Winning Ninco XK120.
Next meeting will be the last Friday in May on the 26th scheduled is Pre 67 sports GT and Racer Group 5 cars. Meeting is open to all comers, contacts and details are on the GT Raceways website, or contact via
