Only chaps in NSW I know running 1/24 are way south of you. There is also probably some groups in Sydney.

Those chaps run hard body plastic kits on Plafit chassis and I think they also have a Lexan body Can Am series also on Plafit chassis.

Another option to think about is the BRM mini saloons - they do NSU, Simca, Mini, Escorts, Opel Cadet and Alfa GTA - these are great little cars that offer close racing and are an easy way to get a group into 1/24 racing. Minimal setup required they work out of the box with some basic tuning. We love running them They are a hoot to drive.
