Race report and results - 18th August 2025 - Club BMW 320i followed by Sports
.
There was an invasion of classic cars to the IoM this week. I was followed into Douglas by a colour changing Nissan Figaro, one of many Figaros visiting.
It seemed really busy out there…
…but not as busy as recent weeks at the club, thankfully there were enough of us for a good night's racing.
.
Club BMW 320i (with club controllers)

.
Ed’s tried really hard to get used to using the club controllers rather than his usual ‘thumbie’ and seems to have got used to it.
.
The penultimate race was Andy & Kev… with Kev having the slightest of advantages, half a second.
At the ‘GO!’ Andy got off into the lead, closely chased by Kev and that’s the way it ended, a few car lengths.  Kev admitted after the race that he’d let Andy go, knowing he only had to finish within half a second but then also admitted he was pushing hard to keep up.  So provisional top spot for Kev, Brian could catch up…could he?
.
Gav, Brian & Ed lined up for the last race, all to play for…with 20 seconds to go Gav was ahead of Ed, with the cars all looking the same it’s easy to be looking at the wrong car…which explains why Gav’s car started careering into the scenery a few too many times…“this one’s yours Gav!” as he was seen looking at the wrong end of the track, losing track position and overall finish to Ed in the dying seconds.
…Brian couldn’t catch Andy & kev but it was an entertaining last race.

.
SPORTS

.
A bit of a mix of car types tonight, Ed’s proxy Mercedes, Gav & Kev’s Audi LMP’s, Brian’s usual Mosler… and a rocket powered Riley of Andy’s that was breaking the sound barrier in practice.
.
Heat #6 was the closest race of the night with Andy & Brian both driving well and circulating in the sub-six second bracket and finishing two seconds apart with Andy’s Riley winning the heat.
.
Kev’s Audi had a great first heat then suffered tyre deg (sounds good) in the other two heats as Brian’s Mosler was slowly catching at the end of one heat.
.
Andy turned the afterburners down to get more control of the Riley culminating in that close Heat #6..
.
Ed’s Merc is a ‘steady Eddie’ and a nice car to drive.  He enjoys driving it so why not race it when he can.  The only car in Back2Basics is still a class win.
.
Gav was having problems watching the right car again… “I’m painting my cars pink for next time!!!!!”... as the Audi was pulled out of the wall again.

.
A good nights racing, funny banter between friends and looking forward to the next one…

 ----------------------------------------

Next week is F1 followed by NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #8 - Kev, Andy & Brian are now having to drop scores as only 7 from 9 count.  This will give the chasing group a chance to close the gap.

Race report and results - 25th August 2025 - F1 followed by NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #8
.
Only three of us tonight for one reason or another… but a nice surprise later on…
.
Brian turned up early tonight, the extra track time he spent to great use as he had time to experiment with his SlotIt controller.  It turned out he’d been using it in a different ‘mode’ than he was used to.  Switching over to ‘linear’ mode the same as Kev’s SlotIt controller, he suddenly found much more control and logical adjustments and soon had some cars flying round much faster than before.
.
Mike turned up with his NSR F1 and Club Mosler which meant we had enough for full heats…but no marshalls… “TRACK!” would be called when one of us deslotted then we’d all stop until the car was on track again.
.
F1 (300 second heats)

.
All three of us chose NSR F1’s which meant we’d be racing the same cars all night.
The advantage of fewer numbers means more track time.  We had three 5 minute heats and yes there were quite a few “TRACK!” calls.
.
Part way through the F1 races we had a visitor, well known to Brian, Jamie remembers the track at the Summerland site and was pleasantly surprised by the four tracks we have and can’t wait to get cars and get started.

.
NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #8 (500 second heats)

.
With two rounds remaining of this year's championship, it was decided to count them both a double points with tonight's scores counting as two rounds.
With Kev not eligible for championship points and only Brian & Mike to race for points, the minimum either would collect tonight was 18 points (two rounds of 9 points) which would change the look of the championship table.
.
All three of us were managing sub-six second hot laps later on as the tyres always improve after the first race and the top skin of rubber is worn away.
.
“How long left?” asked Brian pushing hard to stay in the lead…
“About four minutes”
“What, how long are the races?”
“I can’t remember, I know it was in hundreds of seconds… just pretend it’s a three minute race”
500 seconds is 8 minutes 20 seconds which does seem a long time as we normally race for 200 seconds.
.
We had some close races, too close on occasions and in the end Brian took the double maximum points whilst Mike took double 2nd place points.
.
Despite the small turnout we had relatively few pauses for marshalling and plenty of track time.

Championship Table

.
When told what we were racing next week (Small Saloons), Jamie said “does anyone have a Granada?...”

Next week is Group 5 followed by Small Sports/Saloons

Race report and results - 2nd Oct 2025 - Group 5 followed by Small Sports/Saloons
.
Group 5

.
A good turnout including our newcomer Jamie who last drove a Slot car when the Slot car club was in Summerland… that would have been 2003 or earlier, he didn’t need much help to get going properly.
.
All the usual class favourites plus the spare Club BMW320i saw some great racing.
A mix of standard, modified and open class cars saw three class winners.

.
Small Sports/Saloons

.
Again all the usual class favourites plus the return of Brian’s Gig Healey, last raced by Nigel in 2023 was pushed to the limit by Jamie to his maiden heat win in his second race.
.
Chris has really taken to the MRSlotcar Corvette C1 despite it’s foibles (due to it’s unusual design) that will be ironed out eventually.
Mike’s Moggy Racer, Ed’s Porsche 904, Brian’s Ferrari 365… I mean 275 and Kev’s ‘Little Yellow Hooligan’ Mini again enjoyed some great racing and also ended with three class winners.

.

Next week is Slot Rally - 3 different Rally stages - 4 different cars - lots of winners!

Race report and results - 16th Oct 2025 - Grand Prix & Prewing F1 followed by TV & Film Cars (handicap)
.
Six racers tonight for what was expected to be a comparatively slow evening as far as lap times are concerned, nevertheless we still had some good racing.
.
Prewing F1

.
Two Ferrari 156’s both Open Class cars.  Mike’s #3 car, Andy’s #2 car.
.
Grand Prix

.
Two Modified Class cars, Kev’s Cartrix Mercedes W196 and Brian’s Cartrix Lancia Ferrari D50 which had to be swapped for the trusty Vanwall for the 2nd & 3rd heats.
.
The other two cars were Ed’s Back2Basics Cartrix Lancia D50 and Jamie’s Open Class Mercedes W154.

.
TV & Film Cars

.
A ‘fun’ class for cars with simple mods, guide, tyres and ballast.
.
To stop people running away with tuning, there’s bonus laps for various standard features like lights, standard interior and windows and gears etc.
…there’s also a race bonus system based on the fastest cars, the slower the car the more race bonus laps.
Often the quicker cars are still at or near the top of the podium but that’s more consistency on the track.
For example the car finishing with the least laps was 19 laps down on the car with the most laps but after bonuses that gap was only 2.75 laps.
.

Next week is a theme night… 50's & 60's Monsters & Minis... picture a Mini sat between a Ford Galaxie 500 and a Jaguar Mk 7... or a Oldsmobile Toronado with a Mini either side... it'll be fun!
