Race report and results - 14th August 2025 - TV/Film cars followed by Small Sports/Saloons
.
A good turnout tonight, 6 racers enjoyed a night of slow but steady followed by a class of pocket rockets.
.
TV/Film Cars

.
No ‘racing specials’ as this class from the beginning was ‘all show… and no go’ with bonus points for ‘all show’ and reduced bonus points if your car had too much ‘...go’
.
Last time out in May, Ed’s Batmobile came out top with Chris’s ‘007 Lotus’ not far behind.  With both cars back tonight would we see a repeat performance?
That little Lotus Esprit seems to fly round the track and looks better each time Chris races it.
.
Mike raced his ‘The Batman 2022’ for the first time and found out the hard way that ‘lead’ is a four letter friend with this top heavy monster.  It’s very ‘tuner unfriendly’ with all the fiddly bits inside but looks great on the track.
.
Brian’s ‘General Lee’ coasted to a dead stop at the end of its second race, coming to a standstill on the dead strip (quite appropriate really)... with a burned out clutch, engine revving away and no drive!
…Scalextric ‘Joker’ car to the rescue for his last race.
.
Andy raced his Scalextric ‘Back to the Future’ DeLorean and Kev raced his Scalextric ‘Knight Rider’ Trans Am, both cars seemed untroubled by any issues…
Someone commented these cars would look good driving in the dark with their fancy flashing lights.

.
Small Sports/Saloons

.
OK, now for the racing specials… all but two of these are scratch built.
.
Chris raced his MRSlotcar Corvette C1 for the first time.  It’s had some track time and he found a couple of issues that needed sorting out so it’s still early days just yet as far as this cars capability.
.
Ed’s MRRC Porsche 904 GTS has had some sensible running gear upgrades and is a nice little runner, having minimal ground clearance is always going to help cornering speeds.
.
The rest of the grid is where we see the scratch builds, resin 3D printed bodyshells (Andy’s Mini Sprint and Mike's Moggy Racer), modified standard bodyshells (Kev’s Mini Cooper), brass chassis (both Minis), modified steel Mack chassis (Brian's Ferrari 365 P2), bespoke 3D printed chassis (Mike’s Moggy Racer)… even 3D printed wheels on one car (Minilites on Kev’s Mini Cooper).
.
What’s good about our scratch builds is there’s a lot of collaboration between us, helping each other out with our various skills.  Consequently the overall performance of cars in this class is very good.

Race report and results - 21st August 2025 - Club Revoslots followed by Grand Prix & Prewing F1 cars
.
Four club members tonight for a good mix of racing.
.
Club Revoslots

.
Get the boxes out, take the cars out, put them on the track…race!!!
These have been great cars, the only thing that needs replacing are the guide braids which had literally worn away on the blue Viper.
…dropping the car and breaking the rear wing doesn’t count as ‘fair wear & tear’ (no names mentioned! )
.
Like the other club cars with no tyre prep, the first race of each car tends to be it’s slowest as the top skin on the tyres face needs a few minutes of running and cleaning to be at their best, which is usually the last race for each car.
.
Red Porsche - fast and snatchy at times
Yellow Marcos - quick enough everywhere to be top dog and the most predictable of the three
Blue Viper - smoothest of the three but ‘feels’ like it’s about to roll in every corner
.
Five minute heats with some enjoyable races saw Kev finish top, Andy with the fastest lap and best single lane score and Mike & Brian only a tenth of a second off the hot pace and not far behind at the end.

.
Grand Prix (no Prewing F1’s tonight)

.
Brian was really looking forward to racing his ‘Kev prepped’ Cartrix Lancia Ferrari D50 in the Back2Basics class and it went really nicely and managed a 7.3 second lap.
.
Kev raced his Modified Class Merc W154 that was built for the recent Mike Dove Memorial Classic GP, a bit more lead in the front end kept it in the slot a bit better but still caught out in the sharp Red lane corners a few times.
.
Andy & Mike racing Open Class cars, Andy’s Falcon powered Alfa Bimotore has no brakes, can’t stop, won’t slow down readily… did we say it has no brakes?... but there’s no getting away from the fact that it’s quick!
.
…Mike always enjoys driving the little Connaught which had it’s best run in Yellow lane and managed a score not far behind Brian’s D50

Race report and results - 28thAugust 2025 - NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #7 followed by Saloons
.
Five of us tonight for some fast and furious…and at times super close racing followed by a round of applause and a handshake!
.
NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #7

.
Two racing with three marshalling (except the final heats when we had three racing and two marshalling)
.
Straight to the really good stuff.
.
Chris has had a rough time in the last couple of these events with his Mosler drifting for fun in left handers (or was it right? )... time for a good close look.
A couple of weeks ago, Kev gave it a ‘reset’ and a few test laps showed it was back to sub 6 second pace again.
…tonight was the first time Chris had driven it since and it did take him a while to trust the car again but was definitely on level terms as far as hot lap pace and Heat #6 was THE race of the evening, Chris’s Rothmans Mosler on the tail of Andy’s Gulf Mosler for most of the five minutes.  The race ended with a round of applause as the two drivers shook hands after a brilliant race.
.
So what about the other guys?
  • Andy got fastest lap and finished 2nd overall
  • Brian was one of the four drivers tonight who managed to get round under 6 seconds and finished 3rd overall
  • Ed always practices in Red lane and says he doesn’t like driving in Blue lane but his performance shows he’s better in Blue and can’t quite keep up with the faster guys when they’re going so well
  • Kev managed the best score in each lane, slightly quicker in Yellow and Blue but the main advantage was Red lane for a change.

.
As far as the NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ Championship is concerned, Kev, Andy & Brian have each got their ‘best 7 of 9’ results and will be dropping scores for the last two rounds, this will mean the gap to the top three cars will close significantly as the championship draws to an end.
.
Mike, Chris & Ed are super close in the championship:
  • Mike & Chris both have two more rounds to count
  • Ed has one more round to count
  • Gav hasn’t been able to get down as often as he wants so will only have a maximum of five rounds

.
Saloons

.
Four classes covered this evening:
  • Ed with his Back2Basics Ninco Opel
  • Brian with his Standard Class Slotit Opel
  • Chris with his Modified Class Scalextric/SlotIt Honda
  • Andy & Kev with Open Class Peugeot and Camaro
.
It’s fair to say the pair of Open Class cars were quick, making the Moslers we’d all enjoyed racing earlier look slow!
I don’t know how on earth we’ve managed to develop Saloons to go like this but there it is.
.
Ed’s Ninco Opel is one of his dependable cars, it just works and he seems to enjoy racing it whenever possible.
.
Chris’s Honda has always been a good car and only ever looks in trouble when he’s under pressure.  Putting a SlotIt chassis/pod under a Scalextric bodyshell is a winning combination.
.
Brian’s SloIt Opel was chosen over his Open Class Peugeot (which turned out to be a wise choice looking at the other two cars in that class).  They’re a great car in Standard Class.

.

Next week is Targa Florio night - all four tracks including three Rally tracks with one car each.

Race report and results - 11th August 2025 - Battle of Britain

.
The theme tonight was a British car and a German car as your two choices, anything as long as it wasn’t an open wheeler (F1 for example).
.
In the past we’ve run 5 qually laps then picked teams based on fastest laps… an idea that was always flawed with the possibility of sandbagging…
…to save time and allow longer races, there was no qually session, instead the cars were mixed and raced for five minute heats and teams would be chosen using the age-old method of fastest + slowest in one team, second fastest/slowest in another team etc.
.
I forgot to mention, last week we had two surprise visitors, this week we had another surprise as Geoff walked in to warm hand shakes and a welcome back.  It’s been a tough year for Geoff and tonight he enjoyed racing his cars, and the club banter.
Geoff was brave tonight, a PowerSlot Polo (it’s quick too with a NSR King 21 motor!) and his gold leaf Lola LMP.  The Lola had a breakdown half way through the evening and was swapped for Andy’s Jaguar XJ12C proxy car.
.
Just looking through the list of cars tonight, six of them were/are proxy cars.
.
Andy’s two cars were proxy cars, a Kremer Porsche that’s recently returned after finishing the last proxy and a McLaren Elva that is soon to be shipped out to the next proxy.
.
Ed also raced a pair of proxy cars, a Porsche 904GTS and a Jaguar XK120.
.
Kev raced one proxy car (BMW V12 LMP) and the big Jaguar Mk7.
.
Brian was always going to be racing his SlotIt Audi R8C and his other car was possibly going to be a Mini but instead opted for a McLaren 720.
.
We started the racing, five minute heats and as expected there were some good races to watch (we were marshalling, honest).
.
The team results sheet shows each car's scores with five teams of two cars.
