MSCC 2024 Race results & reports etc.
#61

Race results and report - 19th September 2024 - Club BMW 320i Group 5 followed by F1
.
“It’ll be a quick night compared to last week's lads”...and so it came to be.
.
Club BMW 320i Group 5

.
Raced for the first time since the cars had a service and the rear tyres re-trued and paired into matching diameter on each car.
All three cars ran really nicely with a couple of close heats…but nowhere near as close as the final result.
.
Heat #1 got us off to a high standard of racing and set the tone for the evening, Kev in Red lane, Andy in Blue lane, both cars circulating less than one second apart for the first 18 laps until Andy slowly pulled away and winning by just over 2 seconds.
.
Heat #4 was the other close race with Andy in Yellow lane and Brian in Blue lane, both drivers managing to get round in the 6.2 second bracket, Andy slowly pulling away in his favourite lane with Brian finishing half a lap down at the end and both drivers getting their best lane results in this heat.
.
Ed struggled in the Red lane, fared a little better in Blue lane but was flying round in the Yellow lane…that car was marginally better than the other two and the easiest to drive.
.
Kev’s best run was in Heat #5 in Blue lane against Brian in Red lane, the car felt a bit twitchy during direction changes but must have been OK as it managed the fastest laps.
.
As for the final result, it was close…very close…just less than 0.1 of a lap which is about 7 feet distance or half a second between Kev & Andy.
Brian finished 3.6 laps behind Andy with Ed 7.7 laps behind Brian.

.
F1

.
Now for the fast guys…Standard Class full of NSR F1’s with Kev racing his Modified Class SCX Minardi again after enjoying the challenge last time.
A few weeks of new tyres festering after oil treatment and the Minardi was lapping as quick as Andy’s NSR…but not quite as stable on the tight Red lane as it hasn’t got a pod.
.
The NSR’s may be the same under the bodyshell apart from rear tyres but there’s a wide range in performance, Andy’s car has gone well since the first few weeks he got it, 5.6 in practice laid down the gauntlet for Brian & Ed.
.
Ed’s NSR F1 had intermittent power issues so before his third heat the front axle was raised to get the guide and braid as low as possible which sorted the problem and he had a good final race getting a couple of extra laps…in Red lane too!
.
Brian’s NSR F1 did seem more competitive this week, a 6.1 second hot lap is pretty quick but couldn’t get near Andy’s car…the only car to get close was Kev’s Minardi in the final heat, Andy in his favourite Yellow lane and Kev in the tight Red lane which he expected to cause the car problems which it did two or three times.  This turned out to be the closest F1 race of the night which Andy comfortably won by two laps.

.
So yet another really good nights racing drew to a close with this late summer warm spell stretching into the weekend.
.
The video hasn’t covered the last two races of the night, it plays on the computer but has a glitch just after F1 Heat #4 which Youtube doesn’t like and cuts off the end of the video at this point…don’t let that spoil your enjoyment of the nights racing if you intend watching the races.  There’s over 200 videos on the channel now.

Next week is Group 5’s followed by NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #8…with only two more ‘Club Challenges’ left after this one…all still to play for regarding both the ‘Club Challenge’ Championship and the Unofficial ‘Club Challenge’ Non-Championship.

Race results and report - 26th September 2024 - Group 5 followed by NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #8
.
We were expecting a visitor tonight…and got two.
Andy brought a friend along, Mark stayed for the Group 5 races and helped marshal but declined to join in racing…
Not long after Geoff turned up…Brian H turned up also, borrowed a controller, drove a few cars and did well after such a long lay-off racing.  He said he’ll be back in two weeks for Slot Rally (Brian does like his Rally)
.
Group 5

.
Last week we raced the Club BMW Group 5’s and a couple were getting round under 6.2 seconds, how would tonight's cars compare?...about the same to be honest which says the club cars are pretty good.
.
We had two brilliant races and finished off with a really good battle.
Andy & Geoff in Heat #2, Kev & Andy in Heat #4 (which was yellow flagged near the end) and Kev & Geoff in the final Heat #7
.
Brian L suffered 'balling-up' in the later stages of the races, NSR Ultras but probably Evos...not good...was advised to get some Thunderslot TYC002R tyres as seen on Kev's car (and one or two others)
.
With three sub-classes we had Standard Class, Modified Class and Open Class winners
.
Thanks Mark for helping marshal and well done Brian H for doing so well after such a long lay-off

.
NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #8

.
Andy and Mark left for the evening (a pint down the pub beckoned) which still left four of us to have some good racing.
.
I predicted Brian L would be back at the sharp end of the overall results table after finding a problem with the guide on his car…and he duly obliged with an untroubled nights racing, the best score in Blue lane all night and finally breaking the sub-six second barrier for the first time this year…he’s back!
.
Geoff was super quick last time out with his Mosler Challenge car and was slightly down on pace tonight but not much!...still as difficult as ever to get away from but one or two deslots was costly at the end of the night.
.
Kev was quick as usual but Geoff and Brian made him race hard, it was still all to race for until the last two laps…a couple of deslots too made it closer.
.
Brian H raced the club Mosler that Brian L set up a while back, it goes OK but the tyres aren’t polished to a shiny grip like the Club Challenge Moslers tyres…he did very well tonight.

.
As far as the Championships is concerned, no change there as none of them turned up tonight but the Unofficial Non-Championship is stretching out a little at the top with Kev winning tonight, but 2nd place is only separated by most 1st places as Brian L has now equalled Andy’s score…but Brian still has a ‘worst score’ to drop as he’s the only one who’s raced every round and will have more to choose from.

Next week is '50's & 60's Monsters & Minis'...think Ford Galaxie vs Mini…or Chevrolet Camaro vs Austin A30…it should be fun

Race results and report - 17th October 2024 - Club Revoslots followed by Saloons
.
The best turnout of the year as Geoff, Brian H, Paul and Mike H made nine club members past & present although Mike H couldn’t stay to race he did have a natter and watch the practice for a while.
.
Club Revoslots + club controllers

.
A first for Brian H and Paul with these cars and they did well racing against Ed for three interesting heats.
After the three heats Brian H finished comfortably clear of Paul & Ed but it was obvious that Paul was quickly back in racing mode after his first heat whilst Ed really had a bad time with the red Porsche.
.
Andy, Geoff, Kev, Brian L & Mike raced the other mixed heats, Andy & Kev were a little quicker than the chasing pack of Brian L, Geoff & Mike.  In the end Andy had the least problems and couldn’t be caught and Kev keeping Brian L safely back in 3rd spot.  Geoff & Mike were very close with Geoff having the better of Mike in Yellow and Blue but not living up to his name as ‘good in Red’.

.
Saloons

.
Saloons saw cars from all four classes, Ed in ‘B2B’ with his trusty Ninco Opel which seemed to go better tonight whilst three Standard Class cars were headed by Brian’s SlotIt Opel finishing well ahead of Mike’s NSR Clio…”let’s race this, why not” followed by Brian H’s borrowed Scooby often seen raced (thrashed) by Geoff…the driving style obviously handed down to #1 son Brian.
.
Modified Class was represented by Kev’s 3D Studebaker that’s finally been sorted after about six different chassis…couldn’t be caught by Paul’s Revo Toyota on a 3D chassis…he doesn’t half push through the little chicane which caught him out a couple of times.
.
Open Class was a race of twins, both built by Andy, a pair of Opel Calibras, Andy’s was very consistent and far too fast for Geoff to catch him.

Next week is TV/Film cars followed by Sports…the slowest class we race followed by the fastest…it should be yet another memorable night and if you want to come and race and don’t have a full set of cars, there’s always a spare TV/Film car available

Race results and report - 24th October 2024 - Sports followed by TV/Film Cars
.
Another great turnout tonight…and the return of Gav as he slowly recovers from treatment to make nine drivers for the Sports Cars racing whilst Gav declined to race in the TV/Film Car races.
.
Sports Cars

.
What a great mix of cars we saw tonight, two Moslers, two Revoslots, no less than four LMP’s and the return of Paul’s GT4 Maserati that managed a couple of heat wins.
.
Gav vs Paul vs Ed in both classes tonight generated the closest racing of the night, three well matched drivers.
.
No super fast lap times tonight as Kev opted to race his ‘B2B’ SCX Audi and Andy raced a proxy LMP…this meant it was going to be close with the two NSR Moslers expected to lead the racing…it was close…very close indeed!
.
Chris’s Mack chassied SCX Dome Judd went really well tonight, very competitive against the quicker cars.
.
Brian H borrowed Geoff’s Revo Toyota and it’s a quick car but you have to make allowances for the way they handle as he found out a few times.
The other Revoslot was Ed’s brand new Porsche that won it’s second race.
.
Gav’s NSR Audi R18 looked like it had a magnet but a check found it was perfectly OK but it handles really well.  A couple of 2nd places the end result for Gav’s return to racing.
.
The two NSR Moslers that were expected to lead the charge didn’t have it all their own way with Geoff winning two of his heats and Brian L winning one heat and winning overall by a mere 0.003 of a lap at the end.  Brian won Standard Class and Geoff was less than two laps behind him.

.
TV/Film Cars

.
As this is a 'Back to Basics' class of racing and supposed to be fun with no racing specials, bonuses are given to standard cars with standard body, chassis, full interior and windows, motor, gears, lights and race bonuses are given depending on the cars fastest lap in each heat.
- Free choice of tyres, guide and ballast.
- Racing specials can't win as the idea is to encourage standard cars.
.
Seven Scalextric and two Pioneer cars made up the grid, a pair of Blues Brothers ‘Bluesmobiles’ whilst the rest of the cars were all different.
.
These are the slowest cars we race but some of the most fun.  This was the final round of this year's series and will be looked forward to next year.
