Cars you have bought in 2024

New Year's resolution to 'Stop buying slot cars' broken!

Had to. When this pair popped up on FB Marketplace my resolve .... dissolved!

It cost considerably less for the pair, complete with two unopened packs of braids and ferrules - all post paid, than it would for one on eBay.

'Unused for thirty years' according to the seller, (More like twenty? Not sure when they came out?) they both fired up straight away on a 9v battery.

Body-wise both needed the exhausts relocating in the cylinder heads - but they're a push fit so not a problem and the 'Spider-kart's' rear spoiler needed a slight tweak of one end plane. Nothing else. All was good with no breakages and no damage to the graphics.

The running gear on both needed the usual 'de-fluffing of the back axles, cleaning out of the gear teeth and a little light oiling. Before that though a surprising amount of fine metal strands (wire wool maybe, from the previous owners track cleaning?) had to be removed using tweezers, blu-tak and a magnet in that order.

Resolution SHATTERED with another FB Marketplace haul.

Another lot I couldn't resist at the price.

Lightly used and still on unfrayed original braids the 4WD 201 silver Pajero is just missing a mirror. Apart from that all it needed was the body cleaning in warm soapy water.

Ditto the pickup. 2WD, missing one mirror and needing a light clean, particularly in the bed.

The VW is mint, with moulded in mirrors and again 4WD. I can see why these did well in the Lockdown Proxy Rally/Raid events. Lower than both Pajeros and with better distributed and lighter weight advantage over the 2WD pickup it had to be the weapon of choice.

Finally and obviously the previous owners favourite, the 304 Pajero Evo 2 was in a bad way.

'No wheel drive' was the first thing to tackle. With the body off it was clear why that was the case. The motor had popped out of the rear mount. The mounts front and rear were tweaked back into shape to grip the motor tightly in place and things improved. What I hadn't noticed because of the springing was that the axle had also popped. Once snapped back into place all wheel drive was restored, although some light oiling and adjustment was required to get it running smoothly on a 9v battery.

Next up, tackling the body. A good clean, again in warm soapy water, made a big improvement and also helped me spot that the front clip was loose. (The grill/headlight/nose assembly.) A hard frontal had popped most of the heat-welded locating pins so it was carefully glued in place using Tamiya extra thin liquid cement. (It was probably the hard frontal that did for the running gear - and cracked the screen.) Couldn't do much about the latter other than clean the crack and align the 'glass' on both sides so it's less obvious. I think that's worked as you can barely see it in the photo' above but it was obvious in the seller's photo. One mirror is missing - of course! - as is the spoiler. Luckily online pics show the latter is a simple flat plane, which can easily be replicated with black Plasticard, which I'll do some time.

All that remains is to clean and lube all the chassis.

Result!

Scaley Mustang

I was expecting it to be much wider than it is, only 56mm across the rear arches, 54mm across the rear tyres.

It's also sidewinder so with decent alloys, tyres and deep guide should go well (with ballast!).

This will qualify for our Small Sports/Saloons class but won't stand a chance against the quick small sports cars.

Just had an O.M.G. moment with an early Scalextric set.
A local auction house listed five Scalextric Lots and a couple had caught my eye. The one that mainly interested me was for a Jaguar D-Type CM3 set. I decided to bid on-line so did not have anything other than the house photographs which showed a tatty box with the two cars present plus a jumble of card bridge supports and some fences. The rubber track looked in reasonable condition for age and included the metal edged bridge section that I have wanted for a long time. This one looked pretty good.  I could not see the controllers but those were of little interest. The blue and green Jaguars looked pretty good also.
Anyway I won the sale and today went and collected the set. Everything matched my expectations and I was pleased with the price. I found the controllers underneath the cardboard surround for their box location and then lifted the cardboard section above which holds the bridge parapet sections. O.M.G - underneath was this fabulous C7 Mini. The label on the box identifies it as a "Scalextric" product rather than the very early ones which state Mini-Models (or sim).
Auction listing made no mention of the Mini so I guess they didn't spot it.
With some NSR oil applied to the motor bearings it runs fairly well..
Jaguars have been "boxed" (in the F1 way), needing attention to braids and motors.
The little bottle of Shell oil is present and half-full.

Leo  :-)

FB Marketplace delivers the goods again.

The 1992 Bathurst Winfield Nissan Skyline was just yelling 'Buy me' when I spotted it. It was an ex-club car, running mag-less and fitted with a vac-formed interior. It was just the ticket for the Saloon/Touring car class at the club and fell right in my price range - 'Used - but not destroyed!'

As an afterthought I asked the seller if he still had the original interior. Luckily he did and threw it in for the asking price. The running gear is all good. I just maxed out the track and dropped the front end as low as I could. Body-wise I didn't notice at first but the rear clip heat-melted fastening had popped. No big deal and an easy fix.

Harder was getting the vac-formed interior out then removing the original Slot.it driver from it for re-use in the original hard plastic interior. Goodness knows what adhesive had been used but it was a bit of a beggar! The windows had all been nice and firmly cemented in place so it was finally just a case of the usual wash and polish, the latter clearing up the little bit of clouding that inevitably occurs, before re-assembly.

Bonus was that my wife recognised and liked it immediately. We're both long-term fans of Bathurst  Thumbup

The seller sent through a few photos of other cars he was going to part with and the Alfa caught my eye. It doesn't really fit in any of the club's classes but I just loved the look of it. Glad we struck a deal on it as it's something quite different to my usual cars. It came with a set of Scalextric plastic front wheels and ribbed tyres, which were quickly switched out for something more in keeping. The random assortment of chassis and body screws were replaced with proper Slot.it's and the front ride height adjusted using grub screws from the parts box. (It came with a make-do plastic tube 'spacer' above the metal axle, giving it a nose-high/tail down attitude.) A little of the rear end gearbox/suspension detail had broken, presumably in transit - but it was there and easily fixed with GS Hypo cement. Finally it was all given a good clean and a wax polish.

Love it  Thumbup
