Pancake Power 4-Gear Eliminators

With both the NHRA and Nostalgia 4-Gear running together, this was going to be slightly different to our usual 4-Gear fare.

With eleven cars, the ladder wasn't as straightforward as the other classes, top qualifier Iain sitting out Round One. That did mean we'd start with the sixth and seventh qualifiers, Pete and Sue...

This was close, the winning margin of 0.078 seconds not quite doing justice to how close it was - Sue just falling away at the end to give Pete the win. Their ETs were 0.859 and 0.924 - a little slower than their qualifying times.

Rebecca dispatched Clive with relative ease, the modern Pro Stocker rather tight compared to the free-flowing Mustang Funny Car. The gap was 0.497 and the ETs 0.819 and 1.314.

Bill made swift work of Jerome, the Vega winning by 0.378 seconds. Their ETs were 0.876 and 1.236.

The first round slaughter continued with Nico beating Ken by 0.407 seconds. The Vega clocking a rapid 0.779 and Ken's 'Cuda managing a 1.169.

The fifth and final race was closer - Kev starting well, but then fading badly to give Andy the win by 0.294 seconds. Their ETs were 0.864 and 1.166.

Round Two

With the field whittled down to six, the races should - in theory - be getting closer...

Iain joined the knock-out rounds and set a blistering pace that was simply too much for Pete. The two Funny Cars were separated by 0.174 seconds at the line - their ETs 0.715 and 0.881.

Rebecca and Bill meet again - and this was a close race until Bill's Vega failed to kick on in the final stages. The Bounty Huntress Mustang finished strongly to win by 0.133 seconds - the ETs 0.842 and 0.984.

The winner of this third race would go straight to the final round. Nico started well and never looked in danger from Andy's Auto Club Funny Car - the winning margin 0.091 seconds and the ETs 0.774 to 0.845.

Semi Final

Just one semi, to determine who'd meet Nico in the final...

Another fabulous run by Iain's NAPA Funny Car put paid to Rebecca's challenge. The Mustang managed 0.809, but Iain's 0.712 was enough for a big 0.112 semi-final win.

That gives us our two fastest qualifiers in the 4-Gear final...

Pancake Power 4-Gear Final

Lining up for our last race of the day were Iain and Nico - for a London vs Salzburg showdown...

This is what happened (you may have to watch the video direct on YouTube)...

It was pretty close, with the NAPA Funny Car having a small advantage at half distance...

That gap grew as the finish line drew near...

Iain finishing 0.059 ahead in a very fast 4-Gear final...

Huge congratulations to Iain for grabbing another 4-Gear medal...

This is the ladder...

And all the 4-Gear stats from qualifying and the elimination rounds...

That's it for the pancake classes - but there will be more racing on Saturday evening, with the 16-car Micro Scalextric Street Stock event still to run.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to Friday at the Goodwood Revival, which you can watch live on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjXF518YTHM

Nico, I will be up for it using stock vintage t-jet chassis and 2mm wide rear tyres. No other modifications apart from braids.

Been thrashing in the shop and paint booth but taking occasional breaks to peek at the racing action.  There has been some good tight racing and more than a few surprises.

Looks like the Motown Missile may have siphoned all the speed out of the Torino maybe a little from the Vega FC too Cool

Congratulations to all of the winner and hard chargers.

Great racing with all of you again!  Nice to have Ken back at the track.  Good run from the yellow Charger!

More to come.  Looking forward to it!

Micro Scalextric Street Stock Eliminators - Round One

First vs sixteenth qualifiers started the elimination races...

Jane dispatched Kev's strangely misfiring car by 0.260 seconds - their ETs 0.624 and 0.843. Jane was safely into round two.

Eighth vs ninth promised a close race, but Sue started well and maintained a decent gap to the finish line. Her winning margin over Rebecca was 0.074 seconds - their ETs 0.705 and 0.775.

As expected Bill comfortably got past Pete by 0.124 - with ETs of 0.653 and 0.745.

Likewise, Iain beat Mary by a similar margin - 0.115 seconds - with times of 0.652 and 0.758.

Alas, there were Ooohs and Aaaahs from the crowd when Jeremy's 'Smokey Joe' gave up a huge advantage to Pat's Veyron. Pat's car is a slow starter that then gets really quick - and it sailed past Jeremy's stricken car. Thankfully for the second-place qualifier, the pass happened after the line. Jeremy's winning margin was clocked at 0.087 seconds, thanks to a very big holeshot - their ETs were 0.781 and 0.812. A bizarre race - but Smokey Joe always provides entertainment!

It was back to normality as Jerome beat Rose by 0.110 seconds. Their ETs were 0.670 and 0.788 - Jerome must have been licking his lips at the prospect of meeting Jeremy in round two.

Nico banged in the fastest run of the round - a 0.621 - to beat Andy by 0.164 of a second. The Crown Vic was a disappointment after a strong showing in June, only managing a 0.766.

The eighth race of the first round saw Clive beat Anna in the battle of the Audi GT3s - the margin was 0.113, the ETs 0.649 and 0.736.

Next up, the Round Two races...

Four races in Round Two started with Jane and Sue...

Jane had this all the way, but the races are getting closer now - a strong run from Sue limiting the gap to 0.070. Jane clocked 0.630 and Sue 0.701.

Bill and Iain provided the closest race so far - running side-by-side down the strip, with Iain just shading it by 0.008 seconds on the line. Their ETs were 0.652 and 0.659. Iain would meet Jane in the semis.

The big question was - which Smokey Joe would show itself in this race? Sadly for Jerome, it was the quick one - Jeremy banging in the fastest time of the eliminators so far to win by 0.083 seconds. The ETs were 0.620 and 0.678.

Finally, Clive has a less-than-perfect start - allowing Nico to run away with a 0.084 victory. Their ETs were 0.629 and 0.697.

Semi-Finals

First to go for a place in the Street Stock final were Jane and Iain...

It was another assured victory for Jane's metronomic Nissan. The margin was 0.059 and the ETs 0.622 and 0.681.

If the result of the first semi was expected, no-one had any idea what would happen in the second race - apart from either Jeremy or Nico would win it...

It was super-close, Jeremy having a tiny advantage at half distance. Then one car faded slightly - this time it was Nico who'd faltered, Jeremy getting to the line 0.030 ahead. Jeremy's ET was a rapid 0.627 and Nico's a disappointing 0.659.

Jeremy would meet Jane in the final round...
