Any tips for tuning this at all please?

   

Rules are:

Motor up to 20k. Any tyres, wheels, axles, gears, guide. Any urethanes that fit the standard wheels?

(No body or chassis mod's so must snap in to current plastic chassis.)

Be nice to race it and give the other guys a fright, even if it just snaps at the wheels of the bigger cars  .

Pendles do an own brand 20k motor for GBP 4.50 which is brilliant in this class of car.  Deeper guide helps.

Pendles also sell alloys that same size - again about GBP 4.50 for a pair without tyres.

I make urethanes that work well on SPORT track but can’t vouch for other surfaces as they are ShoreA 40 which might be too hard for other surfaces.

Depending on your driving style you might consider tubing the front axle if that is allowed.

No axle tubing allowed - but I do have a Pendle 20k motor and was going to order some Slot.it CH10 screw guides for other cars. Would one be OK for this too?

I'll have to look at their alloy wheels to see if i can spot the right size while I'm on their web site.

Should have said, the racing is on Scalextric Sport Track so maybe some urethane tyres at some point too .....

Thanks for the tip re: Pendles. Found they do a complete kit of alloy wheels, tyres, grub screws and inserts to suit the Mini so those and their motor will be a good start.

Might go for their Mini sticker set with Union flag roof panel too.

OK, the part-Pendle-ised Mini was great fun. 

I ordered their alloy wheels with inserts, although I haven't used the latter, added a pair of trued urethanes on the rear with the original HARD ground down rears moved to the alloys on the front. (Ground down almost to slicks!) The alloys and decent tyres made a massive difference!

(However, does anyone know of a source for MINILITE inserts for the Pendle wheels please?)

Only other changes were cosmetic. I removed the bumpers and added a Pendles Union Flag roof sticker - a great fit by the way and very durable. Their rally style chequered headlamp covers were also pressed into use along with their #56 Michelin racing numbers.

(The spotlights will also get the chequered cover treatment, the bumpers being re-installed to suit the class it's racing in.) 

I was originally going to run a different Rally car in each heat but after using the Mini in the first one I stuck with it, grinning from ear-to-ear for the full 4 x 3minute races. Didn't win but it sure was fun 

So much so that 'Stage 2' tuning is under way, in preparation for the next meeting . 

I've installed a Pendle's 20k motor with a pink Scalextric Sport 9 tooth pinion so the gear ratio remains stock (so I can compare the Pendle motor's performance). I had to savage the armature shaft to make the pinion a VERY tight fit and the motor is now being lightly oiled and run in.

The 'glass' has been stuck in place and the tan rear number plate panel painted gloss black. The front tyres have had the same treatment, rather than using superglue, varnish or nail varnish. I may add weight low down on the inside of the 'sills'.

Cosmetically I'm not sure whether to black out the grill and/or add fine detail like the front indicators, rear lights, door handles, etc, or just leave it as it is.

P.S. Forgot to ask. Would gluing the rocking 'guide adapter' in place be of any benefit, or leave well enough alone?

When it's finished ..... 

Still waiting for the paint on the tyres to dry. Might take a few days!

Also, decided to do a black wash on the grill rather than a complete blackout - and have added the chequered spotlight covers but front and rear bumpers remain removable. 

Looking good so far.
