Nostalgia 3-Gear Pro Stock Qualifying

These cars have been match racing, but get a full race at the Nationals. Five of the cars are Auto World X-Traction Ultra-G chassis, with Kev using an Aurora AFX chassis...

The newer cars certainly do the business! Kev's car is strong, but lifts and darts to the right off the line. Even with 5g of weight at the front, the problem wasn't solved. Because the car starts, I will put it through the elimination rounds, this time with 10g of ballast!

However, TQ honours go to Nico...

However, the top four are covered by less than 0.02 of a second... The eliminators should be good.

Pro Stock Eliminators

Kev definitely has some work to do on the car - without weight, the guide is lifting out of the slot on the line. With 10g on the hood, it still lifted and the car still veered right... just missing Nico's Road Runner, which was through the finish line in 0.633 seconds. Kev's DNF gave the race to Nico by default.

Rebecca beat Iain by 0.114 in the battle of the orange Camaros. Their ETs were 0.648 and 0.764. Iain hasn't quite got his X-Traction chassis on the pace - that's a challenge for later in the year.

The third Round 1 race was the close one - between the third and fourth qualifiers. Andy's Rat Pack Camaro got the better of Bill's Motown Missile Dodge - the win margin 0.025 seconds and the ETs 0.651 and 0.633.

Nico had a bye in round 2, with Rebecca and Andy racing for the honour of a place in the final...

This was close. Andy's green Camaro got the better start and the Orange California Flash Chevy couldn't make up lost ground. Andy got the win by 0.013 seconds to overturn the qualifying positions and get to the final. The ETs were 0.640 and 0.654.

Nostalgia Pro Stock Final

First qualifier lined up against fourth qualifier...

Andy got another great start, okay not quite this far ahead... but that's how my rather excited brain saw it...

This is what happened next...

The Road Runner caught the Camaro...

But was the pass before, on - or past - the line? That was the question on everyone's lips...

The scoreboard said Andy by 0.002 seconds - and a holeshot win to add salt to Nico's wounds!

I'm not sure anyone saw that coming, least of all me...

Here's the Pro Stock ladder...

And the stats from both qualifying and the elimination races...

Another pause and then I'll be back with match racing (Nico's car has new pick-ups and works fine) - plus a busy afternoon and evening of Micro Scalextric racing.

IFA Match Racing - Round 2

All the cars swapped lanes for this second instalment of Independent Front Axle 3-Gear match racing...

Kev had won Round 1, but Bill came out fighting this time to square the match 1-1. His 0.809 second run (and 7.045 mph) was a big improvement, beating Kev by 0.076. Kev clocked 0.889 and 6.119 mph - almost identical to the first race.

Nico's Vega Van was repaired after its dramatic crash yesterday. However, it did seem to drop a cylinder halfway down the strip... That let Bill through to win by 0.068 seconds - another match that goes to a third round. Bill recorded a 0.808 second run (and 7.339 mph) - Nico 0.881 and 7.576 mph.

The Vega was back on form for this third race - beating Kev by 0.306 seconds to draw level 1-1 in the match. Nico's time was 0.637 seconds and 8.838 mph, Kev clocked 0.930 and 5.132 mph.

So that's three deciders to enjoy later on - probably just before the Street Stock Eliminators.

Best in Show and Best in Series

Before we go on to the three Micro Scalextric classes, there's the important matter of Best in Show and Best in Series...

Rebecca judged Iain's Willys van T-Jet as Best in Show. She was so impressed, it was immediately added to the short list for Best in Series...

The final decision came down to a pair of Iain's cars - and was a tough choice. His green Ford Coupe (which we'll see race in a few minutes) is a masterpiece, but the Willys van was the deserved winner...

Congratulations Iain!

Nostalgia Micro Scalextric 2019 Qualifying

This is the last qualifying session, the other two Micro Scalextric classes qualified yesterday. And - as promised - some pictures of Iain's Ford Coupe...

With one extra car added to the list, qualifying went like this...

With TQ going to Bill's 'Vette...

Eliminators coming soon...

Nostalgia Micro Scalextric 2019 Eliminators

Apologies for the slight delay. Let's get cracking with the first of three Micro Scalextric classes...

First vs last is never very interesting is it? Bill threw down an extremely rapid 0.437 second run, but Kev beat him by 0.001 of a second! A very slight body-mount adjustment transformed Kev's Firebird and delivered a 0.435 - and he's through to the final. The TQ is out.

By comparison, this was routine - a 0.023 second win for Iain... the Ford clocking 0.446 and Rebecca's Merc 0.470.

Third vs fourth was close - 0.003 seconds at the finish line. This one went to Andy's hastily assembled Camaro - a 0.460 to Nico's 0.462. Breathtaking stuff.

Kev waited on the winner of the semi-final shoot-out...

Iain got there 0.020 seconds ahead. His ET 0.442 still slower than Kev's giant-killing run. Andy managed some consistency with a 0.461.

Nostalgia Micro Scalextric 2019 Final

No-one would have predicted this line-up...

And this is what happened...

What happened? Well, something like this...

A good start for both cars, possibly a small lead for Kev? Then Iain found more speed through the line...

And that meant a 0.011 second win...

Almost the recovery of the century for Kev's Firebird, but it was Iain's Ford that made it to Victory Circle...

We did get to see a lot of that lovely Ford Coupe. Here's the ladder...

And data from qualifying and the elimination races...

Super Stock 6.0 is next...

Yeah, there's been some very close racing this time. Those first round races between the two closely-matched qualifiers have been brilliant - and most of the semis and finals too.

Well done to everyone for preparing some really competitive cars Thumbup

Micro Scalextric Super Stock 6.0 Elimination

This class will become Micro Scalextric Super Stock 6.0 after today, with the option of a range of chassis designed to take the same open-can Mabuchi motor (an AFX 6.0 ohm version must be fitted). So we might be seeing the 1995-2018 Micro chassis joined by Tomy Turbos and SRTs, the Bulldog BDR, Artin F and Marchon/Micro Scalextric MR1 cars competing together in the future. Today is the small matter of whether Rebecca's dominant car in this Micro Scalextric class will remain unbeaten.

Let's recap on yesterday's qualifying...

Which meant Nico's Ferrari raced Andy Phillips' magnificent Mini in Round 1...

As always, Andy's custom Mini thrilled the crowds, but it was Nico who won the race - by 0.252 seconds. Their ETs were 0.463 and 0.690.

Next were Iain and Jane. A few of the Super Stock cars have stuck with standard gearing - and Jane's has been one of the quicker ones, occasionally dipping under 0.500 seconds. Not this time - Iain won by 0.066, with the ETs 0.462 and 0.526.

Jeremy is another of the 'standard gear' crew - and he did get close to the half second mark, clocking 0.509. However, Pete's Crazy Ivan was 0.080 ahead at the finish as Jeremy's car was abysmal off the line. Pete's ET was 0.473.

I've stuck with standard gearing on my Super Stock Nissan too. It was completely out-classed by Rebecca's Sanditon Motorsport car - a 0.102 second margin at the line. The ETs 0.453 and 0.554.

Finally, Kev and Bill lined-up for that fifth vs sixth nail-biter - and the chance for Bill to exact some revenge for the Micro 2019 race! Kev has one of  quickest of the standard-geared cars and thanks to a big 0.009 holeshot, he won by 0.002 seconds! Kev's ET was 0.473 to Bill's 0.466. Ouch.

Round Two

Nico sat this one out with a bye, waiting on the winner of the first race...

It was close, although Iain always seemed to control it - a margin of 0.013 seconds at the finish was not entirely comfortable though. Their ETs were 0.468 and 0.476. And yes, Crazy Ivan is standard geared - but would not be going any further this time.

Kev faced Rebecca for a place in the final. This was quick - Rebecca banging in a 0.450 and Kev a 0.471. Rebecca won by 0.026 and could prepare for the final round.

We'll find out who she'll meet in a moment...
