Well while I've been away attending the Shenanigans.

I got busy installing a third Track Call button, installed and finally got the third monitor working along with monitors two and three and attacked the wiring underneath the start gantry, not perfect yet, though getting there, I think...

During these hard times we slotters need to remember to support our local tracks.

Still could be a lot more tidier, thinking I should ditch the extension cord usage for wiring harness and go for a proper two wire negative and positive so it can be cleaned up more.

Still amazes me to see the spider web of my four lane compared to that of a two lane. I'd shudder to think what an eight lane would be and look like.

Might have to work on some track curtains to hide the underneath completely

We're Back Racing at Shenanigans Raceway!!

Race Report

This week see's us return to Shenanigans Raceway after several weeks of no racing due to COVID lockdowns and associated guidelines.

I've been looking forward to returning to racing with the guys on my track, Shenanigans Raceway. I had my fair share of car problems starting with my Ninco 1, it went through prep. and testing the day before, come today's double check and the motor for some reason decided to play funny games, smoked several times, it came to life and seemed down on power  Tappingfoot Tappingfoot

All racers were in attendance this week which no doubt means chaos and shenanigans reign, as expected both these occurred many times throughout the afternoon, tempers raised and some shouting had to be done to be heard above the other chit chat, I have to say, today's race marshalling was absolutely abysmal, disgusting actually. Thinking we might need to do some marshalling practice, even with lane colour stickers on cars, cars were put back on in the wrong lane many, many times. Even the track call buttons were pushed through to China rather than a nice soft push. I don't know what the answer is to reslotting cars a track calls... just no idea.

Any who, this week saw various racers taking out the podiums, which is fantastic, the Most Outstanding was Joe, he made himself several podiums, just proves that a decent controller really does make improved results.

Jeffery was the most quiet of us all, he ran his own races and was great to watch his racing I tried encouraging him along when I could, he just needs to have a little faith in himself and his cars, his cars actually run great, real great.

The Leaderboards and Podiums were again obtained by a mix of racers across all events. Congratulations to everyone on your Leaderboard, Podium wins and great racing.

As is natural for myself, I performed a couple of 'coming through' deslots, even Joe got in on the action driving on trying to clear his way through a deslotted car, he tried but no go. This week still see's myself having trouble with my Ninco cars, onto the next issue to fix, the body mounting screws.

Chaos Report

The chaos certainly reigned today, with myself performing a Dukes Of Hazard manoeuvre coming off the overpass and driving right into the rear of Charlie continuing mowing him down with me driving right over the the top of Charlie's deslotted Pioneer Trans-Am. I hate car incidents like this as the damage sustained can be catastrophic, more so metal cars such as Revo's.

The absolutely most worse deslot was with Paul's Revoslot, brand spanking new and had substantial rear end damage, I could see that he was not at all happy Tappingfoot with the resulting damage and I don't blame him, it is for this reason I'd rather throw a podium than damage someone's car regardless of price.

We saw Joe's Ninco Porsche Cup car lose it's mesh, over several laps the car finally had had enough and let go completely, I suspect this is much worse than we expect, I had a quick look at the pinion and crown and the crown itself was knurled from incorrect mesh and started to destroy the itself, I suspect the damage done will only be repaired with a full replacement of both the crown and pinion.

Guides, they really do a terrific job even though it is one of many items that could go wrong, these little blighters really do all the work, in very harsh conditions, sudden change, then back the other way in another instance, they handle hairpins under harsh racing conditions so we really should see more of these suckers snapping than what we see now.

To go with the gearing issue, we also saw Joe breaking one guide, he says it is what came with the car, he hasn't swapped it out for a wood guide as yet, strange that a factory guide would snap.

I, myself was not issue free, I again saw my Can-Am car vibrating loose it's rear screw which dropped into the slot, I found it smartly and suddenly when my car just stopped dead, there was that screw stuck fast in the slot between the guide and slot wall, thankfully there was no damage to the guide nor car, looks like another black dot sticker to go over the rear as the front has.

Without further jibbering on, here are the Leaderboard, Podium photos, Race Window and the Heat Window for racing at Wed 21st Apr, 2021 at Shenanigans Raceway.

Race Report

We return to Shenanigans Raceway due to school holidays, roadworks and other delays.

We were two racers down today and I reached out to the three other interested guys to see if one of them would like to join us and meet the others in the group and be vetted by us, unfortunately the late notice meant that they were unable to attend for various reasons, sad but that's life. Perhaps within the next few weeks, or sooner if this stay at home visitor limitations are removed.

A decision was made after a quick chat with the others in the group about where the next race is to be, due to racers having to travel through two major road repairs and long wait delays and then having to deal with school holiday traffic, by racing at Shenanigans all this road works and school holiday chaos can be limited to all travelling, this is only tentative*

The race preparation was going ok, no changes or touches were done, so I was exasperated with the problems with the Expert driver, race, windows displaying a white box, the Guided Setup across all the settings worked flawlessly, when I wanted to edit the race using the Expert, nothing was working, grrr. After near on 14 hours, two Windows Resets and seven RC reinstalls later, I finally got the damn Expert screens working. Thankfully as there were some changes needed within RC and these screens are required to complete the changes to RC.

With two racer down, Shenanigans Raceway was utilising RC's Multitrack Three lane setting, leaving us with four racers and one marshal and three track call buttons.

The Leaderboards and Podiums were again obtained by a mix of all racers across all events. Congratulations to everyone on your Leaderboard, Podium wins and great racing. Very close racing by everyone, here's an example of how close, check the results for: Event 8, Host Class, 1-24 Mini Cooper's Fuel

As is natural for myself, I performed a couple of 'coming through' deslots, I also pulled up blowing my race even more, even Joe got in on the action driving on trying to clear his way through a deslotted car, he tried but no go :)

Joe decided to race his Scalextric LMP car, unfortunately this car was just atrocious on the track, another racer running silicon tyres, not only did the silicone's let Joe down, they also destroyed what grip was there for all racers that
followed. This week saw various racers taking out the podiums, which is fantastic, the Most Outstanding was Joe, he made himself several podiums, just proves that a decent controller really does make improved results.

The deslots got that bad by the Scalextric LMP I offered my Revo LMP Toyota, my 3rd LMP backup car for Joe to use, though he had a backup car which was good. Soon as Joe swapped out his racing improved instantly along with the deslots reducing. It is great to want to run a car just for the sake of running a car, this doesn't always work though, especially on racing, my track is available for all in our group.

It was great to see all racers and cars having decent grip, even with an overcast day, the weather last week was a tad worse than last week at Old Bar Raceway where no one had grip, environmental conditions, they certainly do change the racing and car handling.

Guides, they really do a terrific job even though it is one of many items that could go wrong, these little blighters really do all the work, in very harsh conditions, sudden change, then back the other way in another instance, they handle hairpins under harsh racing conditions so we really should see more of these suckers snapping than what we see now.

We saw Paul really pushing his cars hard, he goes out there to break lap records, as is usual to go out there and break the lap record, which he did on two occasions, when Paul deslots it's usually down to him racing hard and not the car.

This week saw various racers taking out the podiums, which is fantastic, the Most Outstanding was Joe, he made himself several podiums, just proves that a decent controller really does make improved results.

Jeffery and Lindsay were unable to attend today's racing, he was missed along with his cars and racing style, both have grown even more from the first time I met, damn his fast. These guys are good.

The racing all day was very close when we check the Race and Heat Windows. Quite a lot of Driver Best Lap and Best Heat Lap were obtained.

Chaos Report Headlines

We see the bridge, chicane and both inside corners. Not a lot of shenanigans today, Joe did break his guide nd nearly forgot that small spring again, but he remembered just in time.

My Slot.it LMP once again broke the guide wire, now that I might have found a work around, during the teating the wire broke again at the guide.

Charlie had two high speed deslots, smacking the flat edge board side on, and the impacts at the right hand turn coming out of the straight, the second impact was more significant, it just sounded bad, after a bit of triage, there was no car damage from either impacts.

I deslotted and Paul came through and literally flipped my LMP over the top of his LMP and kept going. I had a few 'turtles' and a few unreal deslots, it varies from week to week and the level of pain present, which is why this race write-up have taken a few days longer.

Killing some severe sleep deprivation I hit the track with the Revo's first up was the Ferrari F40, this car has not been behaving since purchase (October 22, 2020), tyres quick true, using Wet and Dry 2000 with water, 4-6volts, no change in attitude, to the closet she went for about six months.

These past six months she has been getting better and better, no weight, no mods. light oil and grease, slipped her body back on and the darndest thing this morning out she struts showing off her curves, teasing, gloating, all casual and all, she lays down four lap records in succession and grabs the lap record for slot Red (L2) 7.989 seconds with a shade under 5 minutes track time.

Going to enjoy putting track time under her heels now, she certainly will be making another appearance at Bluehaven Raceway hopefully this Wednesday 13th*

*Lockdown Orders - Stay at Home could end 13-oct-21

edit: I never got to the other Revo's, this Ferrari F40 was such a pleasure to race and race hard

Turned up the music and put in some practice tonight.

The Slot.it Can-Am was going great until it started spluttering and carrying on then a very bad electrical smell hit me and the room.

Not another motor!!! I hit the work bench and pulled the car down only to see two strands of competition soft copper braid wire sticking out of the motor vents, oh no!!!

Pulled the strands out and let the motor cool a little (it was slightly hot, not red hot but hotter than normal) back on the track things seem to be working once again and no more awful electrical smell.

The motor again is alive and working, phew.. time to use up this very soft competition copper braid and never buy it again, though it will take a few weeks or so to get through the 1metre I bought

Race Report

Racer's in attendance today: Johnno (this weeks host), Charlie, Joe, Jeffery, Lindsay and new rookie Warren. Unfortunately, Paul was unavailable again this week.

Well, what can be said about this week, between computer, Race Coordinator, cars (braids, dead on and off). Shenanigan's and chaos reigned this week big time... there was one major accident, see Chaos Report below.

Joe made another appearance with his Can-Am missing his front tyres, yes that's right, his front tyres.

Apparently a few weeks back he tried to true his tyres with a drill...!!! The tyres never arrived in time for this week so he opted for none at all  Rofl

This week saw a mix of racers on the podiums which is fantastic, again the the Most Outstanding was Joe, he made himself several podiums, just proves that a decent controller really does make improved results.

Congratulations to everyone on your Leaderboard, Podium wins and great racing.

Warren hadn't got his cars in order before his first group racing so I loaned him my cars and I borrowed a few from Charlie, including his newly tuned car. Without a controller, Warren had to deal with the DS controller which has zero options for sensitivity, acceleration and brakes, and no lap time on the track he did as good as expected. I am sure Warren will improve in leaps and bounds when he gets the hardware items sorted.

Myself I had the backup Slot.it Can-Am on the track for it's first official run, went pretty good, I think the tyres need changing out, more tuning for it is also required, this gave my Led Zeppelin Can-Am a rest.

This week saw several Lap Records set by Johnno and Charlie. The lap records that Johnno took out occurred nearly instantly when the race began, I had many consecutive Best Time laps which ended with Track Lap Record similar to that which Charlie himself grabbed. Tell you this, it is great when rookies can match it with the veteran racers.

This week's racing events were cut short due to the cluster $%^& that the day was, so the last race for the week was the Slot.it Can-Am's. I was looking to race my Slot.it Mazda LMP but time got the better of us.

Again, I'd been noting my controller control and the harshness with applying the power to full, when I concentrated on the controller and car, I was able to apply a much smoother power curve removing the harsh behavior from the car significantly, so get out there people and practice your controller application, take a note of how you use the controller, it really does make a huge difference, more practice for myself will continue with this.

We had the usual mix of 'coming through' and 'Lindsay maneuver', though nowhere near as many as is usual for our group, Charlie and I have been backing off the racing to let the deslotting culprits go ahead of us to avoid us being caught up in the carnage that usually ensues.

We even saw Warren grab a Track Lap Record, go Warren!!!

Chaos Report Headlines

Charlie had a massive tail ender with a deslotted car, the impact was that substantial that the other car was literally ejected off the track onto the floor, that's the biggest accident in a very long time. And again Charlie was involved with another rear ender when a car had deslotted coming off the bridge and with no time to stop another hard impact occurred, thankfully there were no causalities with these hard impacts.

During our coffee break, Joe decided to go on walkabouts with his egg sandwich (I provide lunch to get away from those biscuits) when Joe spat out some egg while talking, couldn't believe it, saying this Joe has got in the bad habit of eating at the track and dropping all sorts of his foods on the tracks.

New signage is now up for the food at track along with a new sign asking people to NOT lean on the track as this is causing issues that will only come harder to correct the longer this goes on.
