Belgian Kyalami - my Revell Track build
#41

Clumsy twit Sun

I use a scalpel so the cut is super clean and heals in no time. Hardly ever use plasters, just press it together for a few minutes.

In terms of glue …. Anything for the track I use pattex wood glue - a white glue. The plaster of Paris has its own glue. You mix with water and it forms a paste that hardens as it dries

First colour test of the base. Used dark grey as it will remain in the cracks and crevices when I start on the brows. Kind of my testing area as this is my first attempt at this.

Some movement....

First added the Tv Tower - removed plastic base and fitted to holes in plaster for more convincing look. Then I plastered the large cracks in the track - this is a test, as I will sand and then paint. If it works and does not interfere with the slots and/or cars going over it, might do elsewhere - or will have to remove it it crumbles etc.

I will be making some of the iconic scaffolding stands on this side of the track - they were all over the track in the sixties and 70's - would never pass health and safety now of course Bigsmile

Then have added more rocks. Have also bought an acrylic set of paints to mix colours for the rock/ground work. Was not happy with current results - so now I can mix and match to get better accuracy. I will be doing this side of the track as it would ahve looked in Autumn -yellow/brown. The other side will be spring - so greener with a couple of trees.

Messy at present but will paint up tomorrow - thought you might want to see the additions.

Thumbup Great to see your progress! Nice brown colours.
I'll follow with interest how filling the track gaps is working.

It is a pleasure to read your construction report, including the thoughts behind the process.

@ Hub and Carver - your comments are really appreciated as I can only aspire to what you guys do !!

I found the following in our local art shop :

I have watched a couple of model railway scenery 'how to's '  and their mixture of colours is just amazing .
I am not happy with my colour finish as it stands at the minute - it is not yellow enough to mirror reality but when I tried more yellow - i didnt like that either and covered with some brown. RSA is very yellow/brown in Autumn. I will need to download pictures of the track today and then try again after doing pictoral comparisons.

Current look:

In another view - you can see the current look of the track after some painting over the plaster covering of the cracks in the track joints:

BUT.......

I then found this :

and tried it on another part of the track. Joints not perfectly applied at this test stage - but once dry it has a 'sandy' feel and effect. Will now use this on all the joints I want to cover .

This I have realised is no short term project - this will last at least through the winter . Hope you all have patience Sun
