Triumph TR7 Refurbs
#21

Angelo also does a chassis specifically for the TR7 - £10 from him directly. The latest Amato catalogue is in the SlotRacer Traders section here.

Definitely (or should that be definately, DCI Buckells?) these can run in the UK Slot Rally class at next year's WHO Winter Rally Sprint (inline motor etc etc)... Or maybe a little exclusive one-make event along the lines of Leo's EV Triathlon - rally stage, sprint track, drag strip speed trial - during the year? I might be up for hosting... With a small entry-list, it could be done in a weekend.

However... there's one rather good-looking TR7 alternative - George Turner's resin kit...

Available here.

Well, look at that.
Underneath all of the gunky paintwork is.. detail!

The designer and moldmakers  of this scaley body must have been quite miffed to see their efforts bodged over.
That is just how British Leyland worked. Always undermining the original  concept, so the scaley paint job is indeed very "Leyland".

Just look at those vents and panel lines.
I take it back. There are some redeeming features of this body and am convinced that I can make something raceworthy out of it.

Someone set some rules, and let's all curse and swear as we attempt to make a useless car go fast  Banghead

I’ll provide the least (and shoddiest) modified car for the rest of you to use a benchmark if you like??

Who knew tarting up a childhood car would get everyone searching attics for rough TR7’s?

Modified chassis. Definately!

Motor speed limit?

Lightweight interior?

Let's all meet up at next winter's WHO rally sprint to find the winner?

And mine's a TR8, so that gives me an immediate advantage!

A suggestion is to keep it simple.
The less rules the better.
The objective is to take this notoriously bad car, make it work, and make it look good.
Possibility of a future proxy race or class and associated photo opportunity for slotracer?

How about this for a first stab?

Scalectric or G .Turner tr7 body. No chopping the roof off (making it into a cabrio)
58mm max width
Any chassis and side skirts from any material.
Any weight can be added internally to the car.
Any interior (but there must be an interior with a discernable driver with full head/helmet.
Four wheels are mandatory, all four with face detail or inserts.
No magnetraction magnets
No rare earth motors
Car must have transparent windows
Suspension is permitted
Guide must not protrude beyond the front of the car when viewed from above.

Howz that?

And some ground clearance, i.e. rally/hill climb configuration rather than circuit?

I'm off to eBay / Facebook to search for some treasure...

Alan's guidelines look good to me Thumbup

We could make it a rolling project. A weekend-event, then back to base for repairs, upgrades etc... then another weekend event somewhere else - if and when someone else fancies hosting... and so it continues (£3 postage each way). When the UK Slot Car Festival returns, surreptitiously nab a track when no-one's looking... and we compete mano-a-mano... And I'm sure there's plenty of silliness possible in between, including other proxies...

What method did you use for stripping the paint Nonfractal?
