Scalextric ARC Pro Digital Challenge
#1

Scalextric and the Digital Slot Car Association (DiSCA) are taking over the Hornby Visitor Centre in August to host an exciting weekend of BTCC digital racing on a replica of the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. The Scalextric ARC Pro Digital Challenge will take place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August.

Saturday 24 August is a day of 'Arrive & Drive' racing with a fleet of standard Scalextric BTCC cars available to all participants. Simply register, turn up and race. Registration is here. Payment - £5 / £2.50 for under-16s - will be taken on the day and includes entry to the Visitor Centre.

Sunday 25 August is for owner-drivers to run their own Scalextric BTCC cars (modern, post-2016 models only) using Slot.it PT24 P6 rear tyres. Registration is here. Payment - £5 / £2.50 for under-16s - will be taken on the day and includes entry to the Visitor Centre.

Both days will run identical schedules which include a warm-up, qualifying session and three separate races, split into groups, with a step-up mechanism. Race three will be a reverse grid for the top ten drivers. Points collected from each race will determine the overall positions.

Scalextric have put forward some incredible prizes for the top three racers on both days including tickets for the final race of the BTCC season at Brands Hatch and a range of goodies from the Scalextric product line.

There are more details, including rules for the Sunday racing, on the DiSCA website: www.officialdisca.com/2019/07/scalextric-arc-pro-digital-challenge/

Well, that was a cracking first day of racing - the ‘arrive & drive’ event with magnets and ‘club’ cars. A mix of seasoned digital racers and a few novices raced on the Brands Hatch layout for a very authentic 3-race BTCC simulation. Here are some pics...

Great stuff, and nice layout. Cool

That Andy Player bloke doesn't look too shabby when it comes to racing either.

It was certainly a fun day of racing on Saturday. And I did surprise myself by doing so well... Sadly, I was unable to attend yesterday and I hear I missed out on another excellent session. I'll post up the results as soon as I have them.

ARC Pro worked really well and the Brands Hatch layout was perfect for digital racing. The software set-up was almost identical to that on the Missing Manual thread here on Slot Racer Online: https://slotracer.online/community/showt...hp?tid=181 - so it was very satisfying for me to experience it in action on the hallowed ground of the Hornby Visitor Centre and enjoyed by some very experienced digital racers.

The winner's success ballast was brutal - as it should be! Having won the first race, I was a sitting duck for the second - eventually fighting back to grab fourth. That was definitely more fun and realistic than our BTCC success ballast simulation (using RCS64) at WHO/digital and on the short home track where I put together the ARC Pro simulation. Will also struggled with the 75% winner's ballast and just missed out on the step-up to the A final for Race Three, handing me a big advantage in the overall standings. With the reversed grid for Race Three, winning Race Two was always going to be a poisoned chalice.

A big thanks goes to the DiSCA team of Gary and Martin for all their hard work and the for the inspiration to ask Hornby to host the event. I think this weekend could be the start of something and hope that there are more ARC Pro Challenge events in the future.
