Monaco GP was the usual procession as expected but the Coke 600 NASCAR race at Charlotte on Sunday night was something else. Five and a half hours of total mayhem with some of the best racing action in a long time which went down to the wire with two green/white chequers. Umpty wrecks, including a quadruple barrel roll for Chris Buescher coming to rest upside down. Kyle Larson to the rear at least three times for pit lane infringements plus a spin with a burst tyre but came through the field each time and nearly won it, he overtook more cars in a single race than an F1 driver would manage in five seasons.
Some videos on the
NASCAR website or 1 hour highlight program on Free Sports TV 9PM tomorrow. Well worth a watch.

Lack of overtaking isn't down to F1 driver ability but car design and track size perfectly demonstrated on Sunday at Monaco.

By the way, Kimi Raikkonen has been signed up for a NASCAR cup race at Watkins Glen in the Autumn. Should be fun to watch, I wonder how he will cope with the full on USA media and fan access? Can't wait to see him interviewed by Clint Bowyer.

An American public will be completely perplexed by Kimi.
Single syllable answers, no smiles, no body movement, no eye contact.
Bear in mind that to the Fins, Kimi is a mad extrovert!

Couldn't agree more. F1 cars have got bigger and bigger in recent years and it is about time F1 looked at designing cars to suit existing race circuits rather than expecting circuit owners to continually shell out to make the tracks suit the latest cars.
Of course this doesn't apply in Monaco where it has been very difficult to overtake for decades but this is tolerated because Monaco has always been a law unto itself although I understand that Liberty are looking at expecting Monaco to pay similar fees to other circuits in future if they want to keep the Grand Prix.
When you look at the amount of money circuit owners have to pay for the "honour" of hosting an F1 event it is only a matter of time before many more say "thanks but no thanks" particularly in times when so many people are having to watch the pennies and might be reluctant or unable to afford to pay the admission charges that are needed to allow circuit owners to make a profit.
