Based on the number of videos popping up on all my accounts, this NASCAR driver seems to have found a loophole in the rulebook that seems to go against both the spirit and principle of the race series!

I watched the race live on Sunday and couldn't believe my eyes. NASCAR never fails to produce spectacular racing but that was something special even by their standards. Not illegal or a loophole in the rules by any means and the most audacious, brilliant move I have seen in many a long year. Riding the wall is known as the video game gambit and has been attempted unsuccessfully a few times before. Kyle Larson nearly pulled it off at a different track last year but it is so difficult to avoid wrecking yourself that very few will risk it. Ross Chastain is a maverick who tries unconventional moves all the time. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't but it succeeded big time at Martinsville and he locked himself into the championship four at Phoenix next week from a seemingly impossible position. The fans absolutely loved it and most of the other teams applauded the move but it is probably a one off as NASCAR will no doubt ban it because they can't risk the entire field following his example and riding the wall coming to the chequered flag.

Not really, he put it on the wall and hoofed it, the wall did the rest.

As a postscript NASCAR has confirmed it as a legal move, they will reassess things in the off season but won't be banning it for the final race next week at Phoenix as they don't like moving the goalposts mid game. In any event nobody is likely to try it there as the corner entry speeds there are far higher than at Martinsville and the risk involved is too great.
An amusing aside, Kyle Larson was not happy with it and said it was embarrassing for the sport. As he was the last person to try it unsuccessfully against Hamlin at Darlington in September 2021 you have to wonder whether he is just a teensy bit jealous.
Fernando Alonso was highly impressed though "It’s the best thing of 2022 in motor racing! We’ve all done this on video games with damage disabled. I never thought this could become a reality."

Now he's seen how to do it successfully

NASCAR will follow video game makers next season, and install sticky high friction walls

A couple of small speed bumps on the wall might do the trick. You can use the wall, but it'll tear your car apart.
