Is that a thing, slot (non-Carrera) that are chip-ready and can accept a Carrera chip with not too much fuss?

Off the top of my head, recent Slot.it, RevoSlot and BRM/TTS cars all have the correct hole for the Carrera D132 and D124 LED and mounting points. Other cars with a flat pan chassis are possible, but require drilling a small hole for the LED. All will require some soldering and either adding or removing connectors.
There's also now the smaller Slot.it SP43 universal chip for Carrera Digital 132 which is fully-compatible and - in conjunction with the SP46 cable - almost any brand can be chipped for Carrera. The beauty of this is that the chip be easily swapped from one car to another that has the SP46 cable fitted to the pick-ups and the motor.
Instructions here:
I hope that helps.
