Update: On a desperate hunt for an alternative 30T crown I came across an old 3D-printed tyre truer I got with a lot of spares. It used the ubiquitous 28T crown BUT it was installed in a 0.5mm offset pod, still fitted with a traction magnet. I swapped the 30T into that and - it ran freely.  Wrench

I found that in the standard zero offset pod the 30T was rubbing on the traction magnet and that 0.5mm offset was sufficient clearance for it to work.

So .... the chassis now has the 0.5mm pod running 9:30 gearing on a new and wider axle, as I like to see the ends of the axles fit flush with the outer face of the wheels.

I've also replaced the plastic front wheels and hi-pro tyres with alloys and hard lo-pros, which are now running true.

I hadn't run this before all these changes, as it was donated to me by the previous owner after it had been stripped of its rear wheels and Oxigen chip and sat unused on the 'recycle' shelf for some time. Hopefully it should be good  Thumbup

Thanks to all for the suggestions - and to one unanswered question from one of you. No, I don't have access to the track. It's just a once a week informal meeting at the track owners home - but a good chance to learn digital in a relaxed environment   Cool

Have a look at this thread.

I would say you are overworking the car setup before it has even seen a track (while in your hands)

The best source of info will be the guys that are winning at the track you intend to go to. Buddy up to them.
Most racers are willing to help the newcomer, it's only when you start snapping at their heels does the flow of good advice dry up.

You can not trust that the basic car will  be "ok" .
The car might have been shelved for a reason.
Get the car onto a flat plate and make sure the basics are right before putting  time and  money into the car and worrying about advanced setup.

It is possible to set cars up without having a test track.
I'm not a home racer, just a club racer. No home track to test.

With the right tools and prior knowledge of similar cars on similar tracks , you can get the car 95% of the way to its optimal for a particular track, but only track testing and laps ( on that track ) will get it to 100%

Yes, I appreciate that I have no baseline to work from or to compare to but I have enjoyed a good few hours tinkering and turning a dusty, unloved reject into something I'm looking forward to track testing.

I don't think it was entirely without merit. It stands square and true on a setup block, nice and low, with a lovely forward rake.
There was no damage, other than that which I inflicted whilst cleaning and washing the body. I broke the wiper off!   It was so fine I didn't realise it was a separate piece, thinking it was moulded in and printed black. Oh well, never mind.

Effectively no money was put into it, all parts fitted coming from the analogue spares box, parts that were also sat there gathering dust. (Although yes, of course, they had to be paid for somewhere along the line.) Even the offset pod was liberated from the tyre truer, which wasn't benefiting from the offset. I'll put the standard pod in there instead.

The only unknown left is the motor - and if I have to replace it that's no big deal, I'll just dip into the spares box again  Thumbup

No before photos I'm afraid - but here she is now, sitting on the setup block in the first two pic's.
