I thought it was about time we showcased some of the fantastic tracks that you've all made, so I put the best ones I could find into a little section of its own, with some information on each track, a few photos, and a link to the forum thread for more details.

I realise that regular forum members will probably have seen most of the tracks before, but I hope this might be a nice reference for new, or occasional visitors, and a simple way to check out a wide range, and variety of fantastic tracks.

https://slotracer.online/tracks/

The link is also available from the main menu on our home page.

If anybody has any preferences as to how their track is presented, or finds any tracks that I've missed, just let me know.

Hi folks

I’ve been a member for about 10 months now so thought I’d better get round to introducing myself!

I’ve got back into the hobby after a few years away. Carved out a bit of loft space to set up a track in and dug out my old cars (mainly mid-’90s to early 2000s).

I’ve been extremely impressed with the new (to me) Scalextric ARC system. I’m just on the AIR version at the mo.

I’ve found SlotRacer to be invaluable while I’ve been getting back into things, as the slot car world has moved on a bit in my absence (ARC for example).

The Library, the Guide and this forum have all been a goldmine of information, from planning tracks to setting up and tweaking cars.

My go-to manufacturer has been SCX. I had a few of the old Matchbox era 4x4 rally cars from back in the day, and I have bought a few of the more current range over the last few months. I have found that they need very little in the way of setting up to run well without magnets on my home track - and they look the part. They are great fun with lots of tail-out action! Particular faves are the Lancia Delta S4, Renault 5 Maxi Turbo, and MkII Escort.

I’m just making a foray into classic Trans Am cars (always been a fan of the real thing). What do folks make of the Pioneer Mustangs? Are they pretty easy to run without magnets or will they need a bit of work?

Thanks

Scalextric C4222 Ford Capri MKIII - Spa 24-hours 1981 - Woodman, Buncombe & Clark. RRP £46.99. Available now

We've had to wait a little while, but the second racing livery on the Scalextric Capri has arrived. The Capri was my favourite new Scalextric model of 2020 and the two cars in the 2021 catalogue are great choices. The red Gordon Spice car will be released in a few weeks time, but it's the Esso-sponsored Capri of Vince Woodman that's here first - a replica of the car that he drove with Jonathan Buncombe and Peter Clark to third place at the 1981 Spa 24-hours.

Woodman - one of the most talented and popular saloon car racers of his era - passed away in June. After starting out hillclimbing in the west country, Woodman began circuit racing at Castle Combe in 1965 with a Lotus Cortina, then switched to Broadspeed Escorts. He graduated to the British Saloon Car Championship in 1971, finishing runner-up from the 1300cc class in an Escort-BDA carrying VMW’s blue-and-white livery - Woodman was also a well-known Bristol Ford dealer. Woodman was a BSCC fan-favourite until 1989, winning twelve races. He ran a Chevrolet Camaro in 1974-75, but the three-litre capacity limit prompted a return to Fords and the most successful era of his driving career. His breakthrough victory came in the 1976 British GP support race at Brands Hatch in front of 100,000 spectators.

Venturing into the highly-competitive arena of 1970s European touring competition, Woodman entered his Capri in the iconic Spa 24-hours with old west country pal Jonathan Buncombe as co-driver. In 1977 the pair had taken a Gordon Spice Capri Mk2 into third place. Their new Mk3 retired from the race in both 1978 and 1979 - Win Percy joining the team in '79 - but they were back in 1980 with Yorkshireman Peter Clark. The trio finished fifth - eight laps behind the winning Belga-sponsored Capri.

Woodman, Buncombe and Clark were back at Spa in 1981. Capris had won the three previous years, but '81 was all about the TWR Mazda RX-7. The Woodman Capri qualified tenth. Heavy rain greeted the start of the 24-hours - and the #33 Capri was one of several cars to lead the race early on. By half way, the Joosen-Andruet Bastos BMW and the Walkinshaw-Dieudonné Mazda pulled ahead of the pack. Behind them, the Spice and Martin brothers' Capris retired - as had the Camaros. The Mazda pushed hard on Sunday morning, but the battle with the BMW was only concluded when the German engine went down to five cylinders. The Mazda pulled away to a famous victory - the first for a Japanese car at Spa - and the BMW fended off the Woodman Capri, for whom a podium place was a sensational result...

It is wonderful that Scalextric have returned to this golden era of saloon car racing. Having chatted to the brand's researcher Simon Owen, I know it's a range dear to his heart and one that will be developed further in the 2022 catalogue and beyond. Looking back to those years, it is inevitable many of the cars will be tributes to sadly-departed and much-loved characters of the sport. With this year's Capris, saloon car fans will fondly remember Vince Woodman and Gordon Spice.

The 1981 Spa 24-hours Capri is available from all your usual Scalextric stockists now.

Slot.it CA47d Nissan Skyline GT-R #1 - 1st 1992 Bathurst 1000 - Mark Skaife & Jim Richards. RRP £64.95 . Available now

The third livery (CA47c hasn't been released yet) on the Slot.it Skyline R32 GT-R commemorates a memorable - and rather controversial - Bathurst 1000 win for Nissan in 1992. It is a cracking livery, representing the works Nissan Motorsport Australia car of the defending champions Jim Richards and Mark Skaife...

Veteran New Zealander Richards was going for a fifth Bathurst win, with young Aussie star Skaife looking for a second - the pair having dominated the Australian Touring Car Championship in the mighty Nissan GT-R. The Bathurst race was the last in Australia’s Group A era before the start of the category that has become known as V8 Supercars.

The final race for the GT-R at Bathurst ended with a major downpour, causing multiple cars to crash – including the race-leader. The red flag came out with Richards and Skaife declared the winners - despite their Winfield GT-R being buried in a pile of other cars...

The stewards' decision didn't go down well with the Ford and Holden fans at the circuit. During the podium presentation, the crowd booed the Nissan pair, chanting "bullshit". Up on the podium, Skaife responded “We led the race all day … that’s the way it is.” Richards was a bit more direct - “This is bloody disgraceful. I’ll keep racing, but I’ll tell you what, this will remain with me for a long time. You’re a pack of arseholes.”

The Nissan R32 GT-R 'Godzilla' is truly a mighty car and the Slot.it model is magnificent. Underneath the very sharp Winfield livery is the standard Slot.it DTM/Classic Touring layout of a 21k inline S-Can motor, 9:28 gearing, aluminium rear hubs and a clip-in guide. The wiring allows easy conversion to digital with a Slot.it chip fitted with the corresponding connectors...

The holes in the chassis forward of the front wheels are to attach two 'stabilisers' that are included under the box. When fitted, these help reduce tipping. All the Skyline GT-R models have these.

The 1992 Bathurst-winning GT-R is available now from all your usual Slot.it dealers.

Thanks to Jo at Galileo Engineering for sending us these fabulous photographs of the car.
