The Goodwood Revival, Festival of Speed and GRRC Members' Meeting all rely on a small army of volunteers to run the events. From paddock marshals to grandstand stewards, buggy drivers and event 'ambassadors' giving unique Goodwood flavour to the weekends - there are plenty of roles to fill and always the opportunity to enjoy the event from a completely different perspective. Quite a few of my club mates at WHO Racing have thoroughly enjoyed getting involved over the past few years - and the Goodwood Events Team are keen to invite more members of the slot car community to join in.
The events this year are:
- 9 - 10 April 2022 - 79th Members' Meeting
- 23 - 26 June 2022 - Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard
- 16 - 18 September 2022 - Goodwood Revival
- Any time outside of the shift is yours to catch all of the action, explore the event and soak up the atmosphere
- Parking is available and, for those who live over 30 miles away, a camping pitch will be offered on site
- You will be provided with a lunch bag and water whilst on your volunteer shift
- You will be required to undertake one 6 hour unpaid shift, either AM or PM, over each event day
- Roles available include Grandstand Stewards, Paddock Marshals, Mobility Buggy Drivers and Event Ambassadors
- Volunteers will be required to have a fully-refundable deposit taken, equal to the value of an adult weekend ticket (£121-£190 depending on event), to prevent people gaining entry with their wristband and not arriving for their shifts! Providing that all shifts have been completed, the deposit will be returned at Staff HQ at the end of the last volunteering shift
- Please take into account that the rural location of the Goodwood Estate and lack of access by public transport means that having your own transport is essential.
- Due to the nature of the events, volunteers aged 16-17 will need to be accompanied by someone 18 or older.
If you're interested, then register as a Goodwood volunteer here or complete the full application form - stating which event you would like to volunteer at. The Events Team will then contact you nearer the time.
Attached below is the 2022 volunteering booklet.
Welcome to Race Week for Round 7 of the 997 Porsche Cup Proxy from Watkins Glen Scale Raceway. I unboxed the cars today and placed them on the “false grid”. Each car is sitting on wooden rails, so the tires are not touching the surface. This is a picture of all 29 cars in no particular order. They make for a very handsome grid.

For each car I straighten the braids, cleaned tires, ran some laps, and inspected each one for any obvious problems. These are pictures of the cars on track in the order they will be qualified. This is in reverse order of the points standings from Round 6. In the right lane in the photo, which is Lane 1 (Red), we have the cars in Qualifying positions 1-10 with Austin’s #59 the first to go out. The middle lane which is Lane 2 (Yellow) has positions 11-20, and the left lane in photo which is Lane 3 (Blue) has positions 21-29.

I hope to Qualify the cars tomorrow. From my limited testing there are many very fast cars in the field. Some were very close to setting a new track record lap time in Lane 2 which will be used for Qualifying.
The race is scheduled for Sat. 2/12/2022, more to come on Qualifying results, track info and race format.
Hi al I'm Dave Dawes (Dawdawes) have been a railway modeller for many years and am just in the process of building a race circuit/track 24" above my model railway. It has a 16mtr length.
I have basic Scalextric control and and the horrible click counter. Is the Scalextric control with the app and wireless control any good or am I better going with wired better throttles and aftermarket lap timing
Hello people,
Did Scalextric ever produce a controller of the style below with a white casing? Sport, Classic or Micro.
I am aware that they produced a black unit with a white trigger and the Top-Gear sets had white branding on black casings.
If anyone has a white casing for sale, please let me know.

Race # 2 is scheduled at the Wayne's World track in Connecticut, USA. Smokeio our host just completed qualifying on the weekend, the top qualifier was Smokeio, followed by Cgyracer, and in third it's a tie between Brumos RSR & Loanshark. All very close times when you look at the qualifying results.....it will come down to how well the individual cars will gather laps in a race situation. Currently the race is scheduled for Wednesday 6:30PM EST.
Comment from Smokeio Post Qualifying:
So I have numerous thoughts, comments, and theories after running the cars during qualifying:
First of all I love the process of qualifying. Especially after watching the excitement of the shootout, I think it’s more exciting than watching the race. I hope everyone enjoyed “the show”. Thanks to Wayne for driving. I believe he does a fair and great job getting the most out of each car.
There are so many great cars it’s amazing. The top cars are so close does it matter who finished where at this point. The fact that they are so quick here is quite an accomplishment.
I am a little disappointed the Scaleauto tires do not work as well on this track. I had tested them on my track and here and they did not perform as well as Ultragrips. This qualifying proved that out. I think these tires need a lot of rubber laid down in order to hook up. It will be interesting to watch how they run in the race and on other tracks but they may not be the replacement for the NSR tires we hoped for.
It’s nice to see a shake up with different people doing well and not see the GTE’s dominating. I hope the series continues with no one car type on top.
With that said, we come to a different type of track and the #10 is again near the top does not bode well for us competitors. Sure it’s early but this is a sign we are in trouble!
The race is scheduled for this Wednesday 6:30 EST. We are going to live stream the timing and scoring.

The 2022 NSR catalogue has just arrived. Centre stage is the new McLaren 720S GT3...
I can't wait to see performance data for these cars - but I suspect they'll fly off the shelves anyway! There's more GT stuff to look forward to, starting with the Merc, Mosler and C7R...
And finishing with some very classy liveries on the Porsche and Aston Martin, plus all the white kits...
I'd say that's a much more tasty selection of GT liveries than usual - the BWT AMG GT3 and the Brumos Porsches definitely do it for me.
Next, the single seaters and Classic sports...
This event has been missing from the proxy world for a while due to the pandemic but it's back.
Full details on HRW
The club I attend have a new class for this year, full rules Here but basically any WSC/le mans car pre 1993, 23k s-can inline or SW only. We're a 1/32 hard body, plastic chassis club but apart from that if you can buy it you can run it.
We had a shakedown before Xmas and here's a few pictures of the grid to show the sort of thing that will be run (although I bet a few secret weapons were being held back for the real thing).
We're racing on 'Catalunya' an old, fast, bumpy track but best lap times were around 7.1 seconds with a 7.5 median being competitive. I was off the pace with my Mr slot car 787 but it was barely run in and the only inline. I didn't notice at the time but it is also quite small compared to the slot.it group c next to it.
So I've gone with the crowd and started 2 new builds.
Any advice or tips much appreciated!

I'm delighted to be able to introduce some of the BRM 1:24 scale models scheduled for release in 2022. A big thanks to Davide at BRM and Sean at Pendles for sending us the news and images. What we have is some new models, more liveries and the announcement that there'll soon be a brand new mould unveiled (all I can tell you is it's another Ford).
Let's start with three cars due at the end of this month...
There's the BRM134 Opel Kadett GT/E from the 2014 Zolder Festival - plus two Escort Mk1 models. The BRM127 Gulf livery is from the 2013 European hill climb race at Eschdorf in Luxembourg. The purple livery a model of the Erik Berger Racing Escort that raced in Sweden, featuring at the 1969 Dalsland Ring race. Expect to find these on pre-order, with a small price increase (£109.99 at Pendles is a £4.99 increase - or 4.7%).
Following in March and April are two more liveries on the R8 Gordini, the 1975 Le Mans class-winning Heidegger Racing Team BMW 2002ti and the Team Europa Möbel 2002ti from the 1974 Hockenheim DRM race, driven by championship runner-up Jörg Obermoser. Official photos of all these cars will be available soon. These are prototypes...
BRM129: R8 Gordini - Yacco 1964
BRM-SC04: R8 Gordini - Escudería Repsol #1 - Copa TS 1971 Rasilla (Spanish special edition)
BRM135: BMW 2002ti - Kleber #91 - Heidegger Racing Team - Winner Touring Group 2 Class, 24 Hour of Le Mans 1975
BRM139: BMW2002ti - Team Europa Möbel #50 - Winner Div.II DRM Hockenheim 1974
Next, there's some pictures and colour schemes for the first VW Scirocco models...
The McLaren F1 GTR really needs no introduction. Very successful in its day with a Le Mans win in 1995 (plus 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 13th) it raced in various categories over a ten year period. There are a multitude of 1:1 liveries available which is manna from heaven for slot car companies so the world and his mother have produced various versions. This MR Slotcar incarnation was released a few years ago but is still widely available and a couple of them are currently on offer at a reduced price from Pendles so time to give it a try I thought.
I purchased the Andy Wallace/Derek/Justin Bell, Harrods sponsored one in bright yellow for the simple reason that I have red and yellow lanes on my track and already have the red Revoslot car so potentially a matched pair for racing.
Quality control
I don't know if I am Mr Unlucky but almost every car I have bought in recent times, regardless of make, has something wrong with it and this one is no exception. They are usually small things which are easily corrected but it is annoying never the less. With the ever increasing cost of slot cars it really is time that manufacturers paid more attention to quality control.
On this one the front axle had too much up and down movement which meant the wheels jammed in the arches and refused to rotate. This is easily adjustable but, although the relevant holes are provided, no screws are fitted and the average buyer is unlikely to have a ready supply of M2 grub screws to do the job. Would it really add that much to the overall cost of the product to fit a couple as standard?
Once I had sorted that out, oiled the relevant parts and run it in for a bit, I gave it a quick initial blast and was treated to the worst case of the dreaded 'Ninco hop' I have experienced in many a day. Anything approaching full throttle and the rear end bounced so hard the whole car lifted out of the slot! A full strip down revealed the culprit to be a loose motor fixing screw so it was wobbling about and twisting the chassis when any power was applied. Soon tightened up so back on the track we go, at which point two of the wheel inserts fell out and had to be glued back in!
Performance
Apart from changing the rear tyres for ones more suitable for my wooden track and loosening the body screws I left it completely box stock. Unlike more recent issues which have Slot.It motors this is fitted with a Scaleauto 21,500 rev one which is not one of my favourites. It is a bit of a flat out or nothing motor and this one was worse than most so it took a lot of fiddling with the controller knobs to tame the thing down. Even so, the slightest over ambition with the trigger finger on corner exit meant a violent sideways lurch or a quick trip to the scenery and performance was therefore somewhat erratic.
Ultimate lap speed, on the rare occasions I got everything right, was extremely good. Fastest lap on my 50ft track was a fraction over 5 seconds which is not far off Thunderslot times and 3/10ths quicker than the Revoslot but I couldn't do it with any consistency and lap times varied wildly by over a second. The Revoslot would undoubtedly win a race between the two as it is much more predictable.
Summary
The above does look somewhat negative but I think a change of motor would transform it into a real flyer so I will have a rummage in the spares box for something suitable. It was a wise move to ditch the Scaleauto motor in favour of a Slot.It one for the current Jaguars which are better performers straight out of the box. The price was very much in its favour though, £5 cheaper than the current Scalextric/SCX/Carrera RRP for an upmarket car is not at all bad. Even adding in the price of a replacement motor it is still a good buy.
