Revell Lang Cooper
#1
Wink

This was built for a friend who wanted a copy (loose copy ) of the car driven by Ed Leslie in the last races of the 1964 USRRC championship.

This is the car (right hand pic.( I built his without the duct tape on the nose/side sills  Bigsmile

I did not have an original Revell Crown, or guide, so same timeframe Cox bits were found in my parts box.

One big issue with the original chassis is that the front axle/wheels/guide are attached to a brass piece that is attached to the endbell of the FT16D by only 2 self tapping screws,....in a crash, over even over extended use this was prone to bending, even worse, this stress could damage the endbell.

As he was interested in running the car (and not all that bothered about originality), I did add piano wire braces from the front bracket to the rear motor bracket, this not only resulted in much stronger chassis but, gave me a good place to hang some sidepans, which significantly improved the handling.

The side rails are easy enough to remove, if "originality" is required,.....and I did add a rear motor bracket brace.

I did make/add a few bits (intakes/ exhausts/helmet), and purchased the correct decals from Phil Smith,...the finish is a semi gloss clear which is certainly more appropriate for a mid 60's car.

Chris,  you are a true craftsman!  When I get back to Toronto, would you allow me to photograph some of your cars?
