BMW 2002 Avant or Revoslot?
#1

A BMW 2002 is high on my wishlist and I've been looking at the available models and wondered if anyone had any opinions of the Avant and Revoslot models (or others)?

It won't be used in anger or need to be super special, just a nice drivable car around my home track.

They're similarly priced as far as I can see and the Revoslot chassis looks quite something...I've got no anglewinder or metal chassis cars at all so far.

I have seen that Revoslot sell fully decorated bodies separately, so I'm wondering if I could graft one on to a different chassis with maybe Slot.it inline components to save a few pennies.

I don't like the Avant chassis setup so biased towards Revo.

You'll probably be able to improve the laptime capability of the Avant by a greater margin than the Revo as the Revos go well straight away so any tuning is picking up small bits of time.

It does seem to me, who isn't especially knowledgeable in setting up cars beyond changing axles and tyres in Scalextric and Carrera models, that the Revoslot offers a lot more chassis for only a little more money than the Avant.

I agree with Kevans view, Revo any day.

I am  big fan of Revoslot cars - they are enjoyable to drive and generally go really well with minimal tuning.

My only gripe with the Revoslot Grp 2 cars is I think the wheels are a bit small. I may be wrong in this regard but they look too small to my eyes.

I haven't seen the Avant Slot BMW. But I have Carrera and a Spirit BMW 2002 and proportion wise I think the wheels look better on it them than the Revoslot. In saying that they largely sit on the shelf whereas I run and race the Revoslot regularly.

I don't have any experience with the Avant but do have a Revo and must say that it is a great runner after a bit of very minor adjustments. Still find that it's a bit noisy though.

We have a set of Revo GT2's as club cars, they're nearly 3 years old, still have the original stock 30 shore tyres on, haven't needed a penny spent on them, the tyres have worn to a smooth shine so traction is brilliant and there's probably another couple of years left in those tyres.

Yes they were a bit noisy to start with but make sure there's backlash all round the spur gear as they're not very concentric.

The Marcos is the easiest to drive fast, the Porsche is the sprinter of the bunch, the Viper being a bit narrower is somewhere in-between but only a tenth down on the others.  The spare is a Marcos and hasn't needed using yet which is testament to how good and reliable these are.

Other Revos we see on our track/Rally:

Alfa GTA and BMW 2002 - both Gr2, both go in our Small Saloon class (54mm wide) and easily the most competitive cars you can buy in this class but not really competitive against scratch or 3D chassied modifieds.

Toyota Supra, Ferrari 333, Mercedes CLK GTR, Toyota GT-One are all quick but not competitive against other 'standard' Sports/GT's like the NSR Mosler or some of the quicker LMP's.

Ideally Revos belong together in their own class.

The new Corvette C5-R will probably be the car of choice in the next Revoslot Proxy and looks a fabulous car.

I haven't tried those models, but Revoslot's chassis seems solid. Customizing with a fully decorated body sounds fun and budget-friendly.
