Flying Fiona 1929 Fiat
#1

Hi Guy's,
I've just started a new scratch build which is going to take some time as I want to try and make the detail like a model, but it will be used because after all that's the point.
I've followed Magnus on instagram for some time watching him build this awesome car, I contacted him and asked if he's ok with me doing so and he has thankfully sent me loads of photos.

The chassis work has been a little challenge trying to figure how to bend the brass more than one way.
I've managed to get it where I'm happy.
I drew up a plan for scale, I've changed the shape of the back part of the chassis as I got some new pics.

The motor, I found a stl file on thingyverse and had my friend Paul print it for me plus a gear box.
The motor has be customised with something done to the top section above the head.
I made a template from paper and then used styrene(I think that's what you call it).
A bit of filler and sanded to shape.

This motor might be a bit poky for it so I might change to a thin 18K one if I can find one.
Like I said it's going to be a long build, thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy it as much as I will.

Cheers
Tony

Nice start to a cool build, Tony. Looking forward to your progress.

Scalex makes a reasonable 18k slim line 050. I install them in a lot of cars. A replacement motor for a Scalex Mini, or Beetle will do.

Nice one Tony !
I have two of the "Edwardian" FIATS offered by George Turner - Beast of Turin and the standard FIAT GP car.  Not done much other than paint the bodies and purchase tyres.

Will be following your project closely.

Thanks Ken,
are the scalextric motors any good? I read so much about their quality in their products.
I don't buy stock cars as such so have to rely on what I read.

HI Leo,

I've also got The Beast and one of his Fiats.
To answer Anthony B's question and reply to yours, I used the size of the Georges Fiat to get my chassis made up.
The Fiat of Georges is similar shape to Flying Fiona.
When I get to the body work I'm going to either chop parts of the body off, and make my own panels, ie firewall, sides, bonnet so I can hinge it to open.
I might use the radiator and the section where the dash is but it will need a lot of modification.
I'm planning on making a frame like the actual car that the panels sit over.
I'm trying to think ahead how each section will marry up, I sort of figure it out as I approach each section.
The rear section I think might be balsa as that's the only way I can get that shape.

Cheers for the comments everyone.

Hi Tony,

Scalex is not known for amazing quality cars. The 18k S-can sucks in my opinion. But the 18k slim-line 050 is a scratch builders diamond in the rough. I dare you to try one. Not expensive either.

Thanks for that Ken, what brand is the 18K Slim-line 050 then? Sounds interesting.

The Scalex slim line is a little gem.
