Classic Le Manx...a taster
#1

Classic Le Manx

Here's a taster of last nights racing...a truly diverse range of cars, it's fair to say an experiment that should be a regular on next years race calendar.

As this was never intended to be a 'first past the post wins' type of event but to see someone else at the top of the results sheet for a change (or even their first time), I've done two results charts, one comparing the cars relative to their predicted results based on their best qualy lap, and the other a kind of 'balance of performance' set of results with the fastest qualifier as the benchmark.

I'll get the report and results charts up in the next day or so in the clubs results thread, meanwhile.......

Race reports - 1st December - Classic Le Manx

A new event, possibly a great idea…it was a busy night with eight drivers racing two cars and qualy starting at 7.45…hopefully Chris would get to race both cars before 9pm (sadly not to be as time ran out).

All cars pre-1975 meant no Group 5’s, the obvious cars expected to be seen were going to be NSR Ford GT40’s (Mk2 and Mk4) and 60’s Mustangs we’ve seen numerous times over the last couple of years.

Andy has been putting a lot of time into getting a 1950 Cadillac ‘Le Monstre’ ready for tonight's event, was it the biggest car on the grid?….Mike B turned up with an equally large 1939 Embiricos Bentley that we’ve seen before but the two of these in the same race was interesting to say the least.

Eight Fords, three Porsches, a Cadillac, a Ferrari, a Bentley, an Aston Martin and an Alfa Romeo were seen racing, some very fast, some not so fast but that didn’t matter as this wasn’t going to be a ‘first past the post’ type of event…matching your qualy times, being consistent and staying on the track was the aim.

Most of us raced two cars, it was a very satisfying evening, the chance to race different class cars against one another and still have a chance to win overall…but who did win?

There are three results charts:
Normal results showing the cars in their classes.
A ‘closest to the predicted score’ calculated by dividing the total race time (3 x 3 mins) and divided by the best qualy lap time for each driver.
A ‘Balance of Performance’ results using the fastest qualifying time as the ‘scratch’ time, the rest of the qualy times were divided by the ‘scratch’ time to find a ‘BoP Rating’ - this rating was then multiplied by each driver's race totals.

Was it a great idea?...I think it was, we should definitely do this again, Mike and Andy’s highly unusual cars lining up next to each other was inspiring.

Mk2 is nicer looking than the Mk4 and either can be made to go really well.

...Mk1 was also rallied
