Rally Chile 2019 ran at the weekend. This is the first time a round of the WRC has been held in Chile so there were a lot of unknowns and much talk of it being a level play-field. Perhaps predictably Ott Tanack won in a Toyota Yaris.
This was an event included in the Sébastien Loeb package for Hyundai and once again "The Special One" again showed his class to finish in third place just 7.1 seconds behind reigning champ Sébastien Ogier (Citroen C3). In due homage to Loeb, here are a couple of slot cars from his first WRC career (9 times champion).

I arrived in Europe from SA in 1999, andf while there was a thriving SA rally championship, the WRC did not get all that focus other than reports in general Motor racing programmes.
So I was entralled to watch the WRC, and that stage some of the lower tier classes - and that when I first saw Seb in the Citroen Saxo class. You just KNEW he was a champion (even though he scored very few points that year and the next 2). He was and is just brilliant.

I found myself not liking Loeb always winning as it spoilt the events, but have huge respect for his ability. Seb Ogier has taken over the mantle and is establishing a very similar legacy, perhaps even more talented as his time with M-Sport has proven.
The new "WRC All Live" coverage is awesome
Kris Meeke - "There is no hiding place now, every move gets seen"
Jon Desborough - "WRC All Live is the thing to happen in rallying since Colin McRae passed his driving test"

The BelKits are really nice.
I agree with Leo according Loeb.
Maybe the R5, instead of the WRC cars as top class in rallying would have been a better choice; they are cheaper which could have resulted in more competition.
I also like the R5 cars much more than those ugly wide WRC cars of today, with wings everywhere.
Maybe that is also the reason why historic rallying is so popular. People recognize these cars better in relation with their own street car.
But that is just my opinion.
I watch the WRC events on Red Bull TV. It is for free:

SCX Citroen DS3 WRC, Loeb, winner Rallye Monte Carlo 2013.
The last time so far, that Sébastien Loeb won the event.

Yes, the WRC cars are too extreme visually, the 80's Group B cars had more relevance to road cars. Current WRC cars are more like Pike's Peak specials. FIA are really pushing the road safety aspect now but at the same time allowing extreme cars to compete, that doesn't work.
