I continue to be impressed by RevoSlot's growing 1990s GT range - the unique layout with metal chassis and BRM parts, plus an attempt to re-create a 90s GT grid has been a welcome innovation in the slot car world. Less impressive were the spate of generic Martini liveries that appeared on the Marcos and Porsche GT2 bodies. These two new releases - plus a couple of Rothmans cars - fall somewhere in between... not actual 1990s Porsche GT2s, but rather nice homages to famous Porsches of the 1970s.

       

The 'Pink Pig' (also known as Big Berta and 'The Truffle Hunter') was a one-off car produced by Porsche in conjunction with French company SERA. The 917/20 was an  attempt to combine the features of both the long and short-tail 917...

   

It's the livery that endures - Porsche designer Anatole Lapine creating a pink body shell and labelling each of the body parts according to classic butcher cuts. The #23 Pig Pig caused a sensation at Le Mans 1971. Despite arriving at La Sarthe untested, it was the fastest car during qualifying. During the race, the 917/20 running in fifth position dropped out shortly before the end due to an accident. A modern-day Pink Pig returned to Le Mans in 2018 to celebrate the 70th birthday of Porsche. The #92 911 RSR won the GTE Pro class, driven by Michael Christensen, Laurens Vanthoor and Kévin Estre.

       

Jägermeister liveries sell well on slot cars... and this is a particularly nice heritage livery, based on the #25 Max Moritz Porsche 934 turbo that won its class at the 1976 Nürburgring 1000 Kms - driven by Derek Bell and Günter Steckknig...
