SCX Audi S1 EKS RX Quattro - Original, Advance & Compact
#1

SCX - Scalextric España - have brought us the wonderful world of the FIA World Rallycross Championship: their new-for-2020 Audi S1 EKS RX Quattro has just been released in two scales, digital and analogue versions - and four different liveries as individual and set cars. All the individual cars (although not the two sets) have arrived in the UK this week.

The 1:32 scale individual 'Original' analogue cars look fabulous in pictures released by Scalextric España on their Facebook page...

The SCX cars are modelled on the second-generation S1 EKS RX Quattro - new for the 2018 FIA World Rallycross Championship - a collaboration between Audi Sport and the Swedish EKS team of 2016 WRX championship winner and two-time DTM champion Mattias Ekström.

The Red Bull-sponsored EKS car of Ekström finished second in the 2018 championship behind the dominant VW Polo of reigning champion Johan Kristoffersson, who won an amazing eleven races out of twelve. Ekström had to make do with four runner-up spots to finish just ahead of teammate Andreas Bakkerud and WRC legends Sébastien Loeb and Petter Solberg (the WRX champion in 2014 & 15).

SCX U10319 Audi S1 WRX 'Monster'. Available now. RRP £39.95

Andreas Bakkerud stayed with the S1 EKS RX Quattro for 2019, although the partnership between EKS and Audi Sport had ended and he moved team to British-based Monster Energy RX Cartel. It was a successful season for Norwegian Bakkerud, a win at the Canadian WRX round at Trois-Rivières helping him to runner-up spot in the championship, behind Peugeot driver Timmy Hansen.

Bakkerud's Monster Energy car is also included in the SCX Advance digital set, just released in Spain...

The second car in the set is the #40 EKS Audi Sport car that Mattias Ekström drove to eleventh place at the 2019 Belgian WRX round at Spa - the only race he entered that season. Ekström's 2018 Red Bull car has also been released in an SCX Advance digital version and is available in the UK now (SCX E10329 - RRP £49.95). There's no news of when - or if - the SCX Advance Rally Cross set will be arriving in the UK. Fingers-crossed it will be - its price is 20 Euros lower than the GT3 set and - with the added bonus of the WRX cars - will be tempting for those wanting to try out the new SCX Advance digital system. It does look like the set cars have blacked-out windows, which is a little disappointing.

Finally, the Audi S1 EKS RX Quattro has also been added to the 1:43 scale SCX Compact range. Although the Crazy Rally set is not available in the UK just yet, the two individual cars are. The RRP is £14.95 for the SCX C10313 Audi S1 WRX Red Bull and the SCX C10314 Audi S1 WRX 'Exte'. Neither car has racing numbers, but the Red Bull car is Mattias Ekström's 2018 car and the Exte version is the 2019 FIA European Rallycross Championship-winning car of Robin Larsson - perhaps a future option for the 1:32 scale range?

I couldn't finish this post without some video...

... and that's why SCX have called the Compact set 'Crazy Rally' Thumbup

The word from the UK distributors is that the Rally Cross Advance digital set and the Crazy Rally Compact set will be  heading here from SCX "when available". I've noticed that previous sets have been a couple of months behind the same products released in Spain... different packing and power supplies?
