HO Drag Proxy 11-12 August 2020 SIGN-UP
#1

After a very successful first two events event (reports here and here), HO proxy drag racing is returning to the South Coast on Tuesday & Wednesday 11-12 August for further Eighth Mile fun...

Qualifying is Tuesday and then the Eliminators are Wednesday evening with coverage here on SlotRacer Online. The races are sponsored by Jadlam Toys & Models and Super Tires.

There are more details about the monthly proxy drag racing series here: https://slotracer.online/community/showt...p?tid=1256

We will be running the same three classes again in August:
  • Micro Scalextric Street Stock - regs here.
  • Micro Scalextric Super Stock - regs here.
  • T-Jet Nostalgia Super Stock - regs here.

We'll also continue with the Nostalgia Funny Car match-racing, so if you have an Auto World 'Legends of the Quarter Mile' 4-Gear Funny Car - or an old AFX speciality Funny Car - send it in. The match-race chassis will need to be 100% stock - apart from adding braid to the pick-ups (I can do this, if you prefer) and replacement slip-on rear tyres. And if you have any other 4-Gear or Xtraction / Magnatraction cars, we can probably match them up for a duel down the strip.

The Track: The Rock County Eighth Mile is a seven-foot timed strip (1/8 mile in true HO scale) made from the new 2019 Micro Scalextric sectional track. Cars must be fitted with braids to run on this track. Power for the first event is 12 volts, 4 amps per lane. Power to both lanes is triggered by a single switch firing a 2-channel relay board. Timing is Trackmate Drag Basic. There is a two-foot shutdown with dynamic braking and a well-padded catch box.

Sending cars: Aim for your cars to arrive in Brighton by the previous Saturday (8 August) so they can be quarantined and then registered for qualifying on Tuesday. Please also pack in a small box (max height 7.5cm) and pay for your postage online so no-one needs to go near a post office. These races are designed to be full-on social distancing events that are accessible even to those shielding at home.

How to enter: Add a reply with your interest and the classes you'll be entering - one car per class per person. Family members and friends are very welcome to enter too. I will message you with the address to send cars to. You will need to pay for return postage. Otherwise there is no race fee.

I will be ordering from Lucky Bob between now and the next race and am happy to add some extras if anyone wants anything for the drag racing - a T-Jet, 4-Gear, rolling chassis, parts, Jimmy Flintstone resin bodies etc. Those new 'Flames' T-jets have just arrived too. The website is here.

I also noticed that Barry at Slot Cars Direct has some Auto World modern NHRA Pro Stock and Funny Car bodies for £8 each here. No chassis (Lucky Bob has the chassis for $14). These can be run in match racing now and almost certainly will be included in a future 4-Gear class.

The August race is creeping up fast - just under two weeks away. At the moment, there are 26 Street Stock entries, eight Micro Scalextric Super Stock and ten T-Jets. That includes four Street Stockers on their way from the USA - fingers-crossed they arrive in time.

Well Hot Mustard has had some stage 3 upgrades including all new gearing and new 'supersize' super tyres (or should it be tired) the Mercedes has been retired, the sponsors were disappointed in the performance last time out and have walked away from drag racing, fortunately we have found a new sponsorship deal which will be unveiled shortly in Brighton. The Tortoise has under gone a major gearbox overhaul to accommodate larger wheels and tires, however this additional power has required an upgrade to the Wheely bar that means it has doubled in length.  Finally a new 4 gear chassis has arrive from the specialist (Lucky Bob) on the USA and has been paired with a new body from (Barry) Slot cars direct.

"Late breaking news our old sponsor has sold the chassis from the Mercedes to my Mrs (Laura) and it's been mounted with an ex works Aston body.
Let's hope it doesn't end in tears."

Never, never , never, pass on an unsuccessful chassis to your wife.

It will end in tears...most probably yours, if my experience was anything to go by!

Cars are in the post.

Retired the Veyron bodies and got some Nissan shells from a local breaker. I have gone for an understated, grassroots, paint job, whilst Jane's will dazzle you.

Hope they arrive safely.
