HO Vintage Boat Tail
#1

My favorite car of all time. She's no deuce coupe, but if she had set of wings, man, I know she could fly!

3D printed custom spoked large diameter wheels - uses rubber O-rings until I can get around to try casting my own tires for her. Started initial prints through Shapeways, but switched over to resin prints for a much better finish. Printed in 18 parts, it's like assembling a 1/64th scale plastic model.

Unibody system. The frame and fenders serves as the chassis. Powered by choice of an N20 or N30 motor.

Thanks! It took a stupid amount of work to do the model and engineering. But that's why they call it a hobby! Here's some closeups of the model work in Blender.

Thanks!

Here's a few more shots of one I'm shipping out to a friend to build. The spoked wheels are are quite large a diameter, so run with rubber O-rings until I get around to casting some proper tires for her.

I haven't time to finish my build yet, but my Slot Lodge friend Todd sent me pics of his that he just completed.

With the right motor and silicone O-ring tires, she could. But I like to driver her slow so I can look at it! I'll work on some wings for her.

Weird thing is, as a pilot myself, I originally modeled it for a flight simulator package with a very accurate flight physics model. And with the right set up in terms of weight balance and thrust, she actually DOES fly. Her designer, Sir Ken Adam (set designer of James Bond film fame) was a Typhoon fighter pilot with the RAF during WW2. So he must inherently put something magical into the design!
