A new version of Ultimate Racer has just been released. It's very much a test version, with the aim of getting some feedback, so don't expect it to be anything like a finished product, and don't throw out your existing copy of UR just yet.
Quote:A test release of ultimate racer 4.0 layout editor is available to courageous testers at:
http://www.uracerweb.org/URProject/UR40LayoutTests.txt
Major feature changes between rev 3.0 and 4.0:
- full 3d layout editor
- new gui based on cad designers
- group object management, including track sections
- new track library editor with 3d scenery object attachment
- track section emf textures replaced by more realistic png image textures
- 3d track section extrusion replaced by algorithms keeping track section lengths unchanged
(and more...)

Hopefully the V3 files will be compatible and/or upgraded by V4?

Hopefully, but I understand that the new version is based on quite different technology, and since my anti virus software won't let me open it yet, I can't check it out.
I'm definitely going to hang on to my current version of UR anyway, just in case.

I'm sure I saw somewhere else that it was riddled with problems - but I can't find that thread again, so did I imagine it?

Hmph. Just when I'd given up I found it.
Someone has managed to open it but apparently it's 'pretty broken' so
"A test release of ultimate racer 4.0 layout editor is available to courageous testers" seems a fair assessment!
I usually like to jump in on things like this but since I haven't even got to grips with V3 yet I'll leave this to more experienced users to tackle!

Yes, I was expecting some bugs, but I can't even open it.
