New to Slot - Dumb first purchase for Dad!
#11

Half the fun is getting this old stuff useable again. Light oil on all the bearings, motor in particular would be a good start. The motors will just need gently coaxing back to life. When the oil has had time to penetrate try rotating the armature by hand if possible. Looking at the photo of the motors rotating by running a thumb or fingertip over the exposed armature would be a kind start to life again.

That's a GREAT set by the way. Very desirable cars.

Well thats depressing.  Anyone want to buy a set that needs some serious tlc?   Rofl

I am a huge Revell fan and use their track for my home track

Look at eBay in your area and for sure you will find someone making the tyres. You beed tyres normally sold as fitting Monogram or Revell vintage cars. Pretty standard.

Amazing!  Do you have any ideas how to safely remove this plastic gear so I can remove the pinon and get the motors out?

To remove the motor you are going to have to bend the chassis upright back to free the can.
This is the upright holding the can end of the motor not the endbell/plastic end nearest the axle.

Hello ducatimann,

There is a lot of love for Revell slot-car kit around the world and obviously, especially in North America.

If I had spotted his topic earlier I would have suggested that you join the "World Wide Slot Car Chat" which takes place every Wednesday (Link below). There are two or three Revell super-fans on there and they would love to talk with you about this. Like most things the WWSCC slows down a bit during the festive period but the chats are still on.

WWSCC  takes place as a ZOOM meeting with live broadcast to YouTube. However for the Festive break it will only be on Zoom (which is the best way to ask questions).

The track system is still up there with the best.  The desirable cars were "state of the art" for domestic racing back in the day and still run well but the technology has advanced a lot since then.

WWSCC are a friendly bunch and will welcome you with a "there are no stupid questions" attitude. You might find that you get overloaded with support !!

A direct message to "MrFlippant" on here will get you connected. Greg is the host.

Be oiled!
If the cars haven't been run the first thing is a tiny drop of oil (3in. 1 works if you don't have anything else) and let them sit  a few minutes to soak.    I would oil the bearings on the motors too but you have to be really careful to get just a tiny drop.

Once everything is lubricated, try rotating.    If it's easier, apply power (probably going to be very squeaky to start).    If it still doesn't rotate, more work is needed and having them done by Christmas is right out.

If you can lube them and they run, you just need tires which are available on auction sites or other locations depending on where you are.
