Hello!

I want to collect 1:32 slot car WRC models, one for every champion since I've followed it in 2000.
It seems impossible to get the actual years for the champion themselves....

Can anybody recommend the best way to collect them? Maybe there are older discontinued ones that you know? 

Attached is a table of the champions, their cars & the number they would've run that year. Hopefully it helps anybody work out which specific one I would need. But we're talking 13 cars featuring:

Gronholm
Burns
Solberg
Loeb (4 Citroens - Kronos Zsara incl.)
Ogier (Polo, Fiesta & Yaris)
Tanak
Neuville

I have no preference over the make. Scalextric makes some recent cars decently, but I know that SCX & AvantSlot have been known to produce very good cars. Maybe Slot.it & others have made some? I've fallen down a rabbit hole with it & came back with very few answers... If you know manufacturer & model numbers I'd be very grateful!

Alternatively, if you can suggest a cost effective & time minimal way to put the right decals on certain similar cars... it could be a solution... maybe.

Before I go ordering magazines...

- Which article is likely to answer my question the best?
- Do any of them have a list of cars / manufacturers?

I'm guessing that the "40 years" article is the most likely one. 


In having researched the subject previously, where's the best starting point? Are there manufacturers you'd recommend looking at?

From what I can tell, there are examples of cars through the 90s early 00s, but the most recent ones are far me difficult. Anything since 2017 seems to be the wrong year -  I want the Fiesta or the Yaris or the i20 with the number before they were crowned, so no #1 cars. Then finding ones from the right year (so the correct livery) is proving even more difficult!

I think you have searched well - there are plenty of options if you were looking at WRC Champions from the late 70s through to 2000. Since then, fewer models have been made. 

The early 2000s champions are possible. Several brands produced WRC models at the time and are still circulating on the used / new old stock market. Look for SCX (branded Scalextric in Spain), Scalextric (UK), Ninco, AutoArt and Carrera.

As the 2000 and 2010s went on, both Ninco and SCX hit financial issues and AutoArt disappeared. You will be able to find a C4 (Ninco), a DS3 (SCX), Fiesta (SCX) and Polo (Scalextric), but no pre-hybrid Yaris in 1:32 scale and no hybrid era i20. SCX and Avant Slot have the current Rally1 Yaris with plenty of livery options.

Unfortunately, looking back, the championship-winning liveries you are looking for were either never produced or are highly sought-after (ie super-expensive, if you can find them). Hub’s article will help. Decals are available, if a re-livery is acceptable.

Apart from eBay, some places to look for those out-of-production rally cars are Phil Smith slot cars and Scale Models - or get along to a slot car Swapmeet - Phil Smith has a calendar of UK and European events on his website. There are also some UK-based Slot Rally groups on Facebook.

The previously mentioned articles do not contain a list.
The article "40 Years" describes, as the title suggests, the World Rally Championship from 1973 to 2014.

A remark:
WRC can mean both World Rally Championship and World Rally Car.
The World Rally Championship for Makes started in 1973.
The World Rally Championship for Drivers started in 1979.
From 1997 onwards, the World Rally Cars appeared, after the Group A and B cars.

The Yaris is produced in 1:43 scale by SCX in their Compact series (I'm not sure if this is the one you're looking for).

As you can see, Scalextric and SCX are the manufacturers on your list.
If you're interested in more rally cars, SRC or Team Slot are also recommended.
