Mr SlotCar C1 Corvette
#31

Bernie, no criticism from me, to me a car comes from the manufacturer as a 'first fix'...i.e. thrown together for the sale...race prep should be expected if you're racing any car.

MR Slotcar Corvette day 2

As Bernie says, the car seems to tip up at the front a little, but I found on mine that the guide blade was about 2mm below the chassis. So I have taken at least 1.0mm off the guide holder, and now it is just about even and looks much better to me. I also found that the rear axle / gearing tends to be a little loose which affects the amount of track you can put on the wheels and the car rattled about abit. So I put 3mm brass spacers between the wheels and the bushes to stabilise the amount of movement. Also did much the same with the front wheels.

As I don’t know much about the standard MR Motor, today I changed it for a Predator Slimline, without a great deal of effort I have managed to get a significant improvement in the running of the car compared to my Ninco version ( with the same motor)   Sun

Sounds good. What RPM Predator did you use?

It was the 18k rpm Predator, it is measuring a higher rpm on my rolling road than the original

This is in no way connected with any previous comment I might have made about The Corvette and other Mr Slotcar products.

I find it astonishing that something produced by a small manufacturer would be compared only to something by Ninco. I would expect it to absolutely destroy it. I've tried Ninco motors and they are.....not the fastest shall we say.

The only modern motors I have really enjoyed using have been NSR's between 38,000 and 50,000 RPM. They go very well indeed in a brass chassis. If this is just the usual case that I know nothing about modern RTRs and my expectations are based on the performance of older, classic motors, I don't know but I find them somewhat anaemic.

I do think that most look lovely though. My wife gave me a BRM Alfa (24th of course) and it is astonishing pretty but I have to say, the performance is way down from my expectations, I have great trouble getting it sideways Sun. Yes, yes, I know that's not the quickest way and I am quite capable of driving fast thanks but I prefer more performance than I need to use rather than something underpowered or only just quick enough. I like real cars like that too. Shame I'm now such an old git that I drive an Audi but I've been lucky enough to have owned a fair selection of Alfas over the years so I can live on memories there as well as with slot cars.

Thanks for the DArt whitewall tire link! I haven't been slot car active lately as it's bicycle riding and RC aerotow season.

The Corvette is just lovely!

I think I have unintentionally  mislead you, I should have said that the Ninco is actually just the body, it has a 3d printed chassis with the same slimline Predator motor. I just refer to as my Ninco because it’s based on the body.

38-50k motors on skinny rubber tyres...I see no point in that whatsoever.

What's this skinny runner tyres then?

In any case, what you see as pointless is rather irrelevant isn't it?
