Cars you have bought in 2025
#61

First pair of cars bought at Gaydon 2025.

They were used boxed and the pair were near enough the price of one new. Ran them up on a 9v battery at the show and they sounded strong but the rear wheels on both are running off kilter and will need replacing.

Other than that, they're great.

They'll get dismantled, cleaned, oiled, rebuilt with new rear wheels - and raced.  Checkeredflag

Second pair from Gaydon 2025. Same seller. The pair were less than a third the price of my Legends purchase.

The blue Mini really appealed. In my opinion, whoever did it got the look just right, plus it had what in my enthusiasm I thought was a 3D printed inline chassis. Turns out it's an early original, heavily butchered, with what looks like a Slot.it motor installed. (My excuse? I didn't have my glasses with me at the time!) I've already taken the body apart, given it all a really good clean and reassembled it, gluing the glass and interior in place. (The glass was loose and the cut down interior mounted with gaffer tape.)

The Cobra is a modified Ninco running what appears to be the stock chassis but narrowed quite considerably. Body has been cleaned, polished and reassembled, with the loose interior glued into place. The brass tube rollbar still needs securing behind the drivers right shoulder. Apart from that I've stripped the sidemounted exhausts of their thick silver paint and redone them in white.

I think I've already had my money's worth out of these, just fiddle-faffing.  Bigsmile

The final pairing from Gaydon. A couple of MG Vanquish McLarens.

The orange car is better than the one I had already, this one being new, mint but unboxed. (I have the box.) No work required, apart from removing the price sticker before it headed for home! (It was VERY reasonably priced though. Really!)

The white one I didn't have. It's missing a mirror but it too was new unboxed. No problem, as I have a few spares of all sorts knocking about.

These are display-only items though - and won't get raced.

And finally ... the last thing in the Kart!  Rofl

Mint, boxed and still with the factory seals unbroken. Well, it was. Not any more.  Bigsmile

A 'reasonable' price but with a deal to be had, a great price.

I've been watching a used one on eBay and it's already getting close to what I paid for this, then there's the P&P to be added and the risk of damage in the post, so I barely hesitated. (A Kart in the hand's worth two on the Bay - and I might not have won the auction anyway.)

These three all came from here, before the Gaydon Slot Car Festival.

I haven't done anything to the BMW or Nissan other than clean them and widen the rear track on the latter.

I figured the Lancia, being a pre-owned white kit would be the one requiring some TLC - and it was.

It was very nicely painted and decalled but the front spoiler, grill and headlight assembly was quite loosely attached, so was gently prised off, all the edges cleaned up then firmly reattached with Tamiya thin styrene cement.

The same was true at the rear with the gravel  pan, tail-light panel and engine detail all barely attached. I could see why, as the parts made a very deeply tunneled rear end, making it difficult to glue and assemble.

Clear tape was used on the outside to hold the pieces in place while they were 'spot-welded' from the inside. I used the capilliary action of the thin styrene cement to tack short sections between the tape together, being careful not to overdo it and have the cement run under the tape on the exterior of the bodywork.

When it was set, the tape was removed and the pieces finally 'seam-welded' from the inside with more of the thin styrene cement, which flowed nicely along the joints.

The interior was removed and the glass and rear window louvres were given the same VERY careful capilliary cement treatment before the interior was stuck back in place with the GS cement. Finally the rear spoiler, which was completely detached was stuck back in place with the GS Hypo Cement too.

The chassis needed no work other than to ease off the gear mesh a tad and push the wheels out as far as they'd go without catching the bodywork.

Of the three, I like the Lancia best, partly because it did need some work, which I enjoyed and makes it feel more like 'mine'. It may get some more graphics though, just to aid visibility on the track.

The Brumos Porsche appears smaller than a Fly Porsche and looks more like an MRRC size Porsche.
