Manx Slot Car Club - Slot Rally Results 2024
#1

Slot Rally - 8th Feb 2024

Work / holiday / illness again reducing numbers tonight so we drove 6 cars each rather than the usual 4.

With Andy back from ‘down under’ Open Class looked popular again…but no Mitsubishi Evo!

Nine classes were catered for across Standard, ProStock and Open with the most popular being ProStock 2WD.

It’s fair to say we were a bit rusty with the last proper Slot Rally being eleven weeks ago…

A good mix of cars, nothing new tonight but Slot Rally GB 2024 was mentioned with the Manx round getting closer 20/21 April 2024

Next week is GP/Prewing F1 plus Small Sports/Saloons

During Andy's Mustang run on Little Druidale I wasn't 100% happy with the setup of the lap timer and thought he'd missed a lap.  After watching the video I was right so here's the updated results charts.

Slot Rally - 8th March
.
20 cars were entered tonight, it was good to see Mike's Fiat Punto and Brian's Abarth 131 back on the Rally stages.
.
Also good to see Chris's Toyota Supra go well, Kev's proxy Jag XK120 in action again and a new to the stages Nissan R32 from Andy which was last seen in the Touring car proxy a few months ago.
.
Five Standard Class cars with Chris & Kev competing for 80's Class.

Nine ProStock Class cars with Mike & Kev competing for 4wd and five 2WD cars, two of them being Mike's in his favourite class.

Six Open Class cars with Andy, Chris & Brian competing for 2WD.

No video this week as I remembered too late to start the camera.

More discussions tonight about the IoM round of SRGB in a few weeks time.  If you're interested in entering it's £5 per car, up to 4 cars with 2 cars allowed in one class.  All cars must be inline and have plastic chassis.
.
A special award for the best SCX and Scalextric car in each class - these cars must comply with SRGB (and incidentally our own Standard Class) rules.

Slot Rally - 23rd May 2024 - TT Grandstand + Little Druidale + Carpark Chaos

.
Three Rally stages for the first time, Andy got to drive on Carpark Chaos for the first time since 2017, Brian & Kev having driven on it a few weeks ago during Slot Rally GB IoM.
.
It never ceases to amaze me how many new cars we see on Rally nights, this time we saw three cars only seen in testing before or with previous owners.

.
Andy's Revoslot Toyota Supra - a standard car with basic tuning
Brian's NSR Abarth S2000 - a standard car with inline motor recently bought from Andy who used to Rally it a few years ago
Kev's Scaley Rover SD1 - Scaley bodyshell with 3D inline chassis

Slot Rally - 27th June 2024

Work, holidays and the dreaded lurgy (aka Covid) meant numbers were down last night.  Ed & Kev were joined by two surprise visitors...Andy turned up with his Grandson all the way from Australia 30 hours earlier, he's never driven on a Rally stage before and only driven a Slot car once before back home...but Archer who's only a young lad and had to stand on a platform to see Little Druidale stage properly did very well indeed!
.
We were also joined by a new visitor, one of Ed's associates, James who had Slot cars as a kid enjoyed having a go on TT Grandstand and could well visit again in the future.
.
Andy and Archer had to leave at 9.30, Archer was rubbing his eyes "you're tired aren't you" said Andy... "no it's something in my eye" ?
.
Ed & myself finished the last stage mindful of lack of marshals.

Slot Rally - 1st August 2024 -

.
Geoff was back, it was good to see him again with his favourite Rally cars and the first time he'd driven on Carpark Chaos since the last Slot Rally IoM in 2017...
.
We ran five cars each and represented ten different classes between us.
.
A pair of Revoslot Toyota Supras in Open 2WD (Andy & Geoff)
A pair of Jaguar XK120’s one Standard, one Modified (Geoff & Kev)
Cars or bodyshells from Ninco, Fly, Scalextric, NSR, Sloter, SlotIt, Scaleauto, Powerslot Carrera, Policar, Revoslot, MSC…and a resin cast bodyshell.
.
Geoff was first out of the hat and chose TT Grandstand as the first stage.
Kev was second and chose Carpark Chaos
Andy was first to run on Little Druidale

Contested classes:
Kev & Geoff in ProStock Classic
Kev & Geoff in ProStock 2WD with Geoff driving two cars in this class
Andy & Geoff in Open 2WD with Andy driving two cars in this class
.

Slot Rally - 10th October 2024

.
As there was a bit of a mix-up last night we ended up with only three drivers...but 5 cars each is still 15 cars.
.
No Open Class cars tonight so no blue on the results charts.
.
A pair of Standard Class cars, Kev's BMW M1 in 80's and Mike B's Subaru in 4WD.
.
The rest of the cars were all ProStocks:
Solo runs were Kev's Jag XK120 in Small Classic, his Triumph TR7 V8 in Classic and Mike B's Mitsubishi Evo X in 4WD that unfortunately DNF'd Carpark Chaos due to the wire coming out of the guide.

.
ProStock 80's was well represented with Kev's Opel Manta and Rover SD1 and Brian's DeTomaso Pantera.
.
ProStock 2WD again easily the most popular class with five NSR's and a pair of Scaleautos.  Four cars by Brian and three by Mike.  The two NSR Porsche GT3's finished just over half a second apart.

Slot Rally - 14 November 2024

7 drivers, 28 cars, 3 Rally stages...plus close-up video action.
.
Geoff, Brian & Matthew made it three generations of Harrisons...they made up one group, Geoff & Brian we know are pretty handy with a Rally car, but young Matthew who'd never driven Slot cars before was using the controller properly...he'll be competitive in no time!
.
The other group was Paul, Mike B, Brian L & Kev.
.
Of course the big change this time was the introduction of the new 'Back 2 Basics' (B2B) class which replaces the old 'Standard Class'.
.
The new Standard Class is upgraded 'B2B' cars and basic cars with no adjustable motor pods, as we found out tonight this includes unpodded MSC, Avant and SCX Pro cars, all previously classed as 'ProStock Class' with their alloys and replaceable gears.
.
'B2B' was really popular with 10 cars, the same as the previously most popular 'ProStock' class.
.
5 'Standard Class' and 3 'Open Class' cars made for a good spread of car types, makes and abaility.
.
Two other big surprises apart from Matthew were Mike B's new SCX Skoda and Brian L's new Ninco Scooby, both looking like fully race-prepped cars.
.
Class wins in class order for Kev, Brian L, Brian H, Paul and Geoff with Mike B getting three runners-up places.  Matthew had a 3rd place in 'B2B' 4WD.
