Belated July 8th Race report.

Circuit laid out with the extended main straight.

1st race: Scx trucks.

Race prepped by Vic' these were great fun with the typical 'leaning on each other in the corners' racing the trucks would suggest. Mark J came home in 1st place, a good two laps ahead of Shaun and David.

Race two saw the Vic' tuned Scalextric Karts taking to the track on reduced voltage. Very close racing lap after lap finally saw Bill coming home first by the narrowest of margins, just half a lap ahead of Mark and Vic'.

The Mains was for owner/driver Nascar & Muscle cars with voltage set at 11v.  Shauns ( West Ham colours ) modified Ninco Camaro turned out to be the fastest on track but was maybe just a little too much of a handful, ultimately losing out to Vic, who took top step on the podium, with Mark on the middle step.

Three classes, three different winners after a fun night of close racing, all at 11-12 volts.

Next meeting: Aug 5th. (usual time and place.)

August 5th report:

Two new people, Ben and yet another Mark, turned up and really enjoyed racing on the big track. Very friendly. We're hoping they will join.

1st support race, Club Slot.it Nissan GT1's, with reduced voltage it gave the new comers a chance to learn the track, with the experienced club driver, David, coming home 1st.

2nd support race, Scalextric Mk1 Escorts, slightly modified 1970’s cars running very well with door handles touching lap after lap, David coming home in 1st place.

At one point David and Vic' were side by side at the corner after the drivers station when David's car went up on 2 wheels for a few inches before dropping back into the slot to carry on racing. Great fun but no photo.

Main race, Owner/Driver Saloon cars, attracted a very varied field but with them all being limited to 20k motors & 11 volts racing was very close, with Vic coming home in 1st place.

(Brian has generously donated many track sections to the club, which will be used to lengthen the main straight to over 32 feet.)

Next race night: Sept 2nd.

Main race: Owner/driver Rally cars (motor max 21,00rpm and inline chassis.)
Support race: Club Peugeot 206s.

On Saturday September 2nd eleven of thirteen club members turned up to race, the two absentees being on holiday.

As things worked out it was just about the right number for a good nights racing.

The Support Race: was run using the club Ninco Peugeot 206s, with plenty of close racing on yet another variation of the track layout.

With all six lanes in operation and the new people learning the circuit things were a bit frantic.

At the end of the session though, only 1.7 laps separated the top five, with Mark Raine coming home in 1st place, followed by Mark Jay. David and Bill tied on eighty two laps, David taking third by dint of the fastest lap.

The Main race: With owner/driver Rally cars the results were not so close overall, with two or more laps between places at the end. However, there was a lot of close racing in the heats.

Vic came home in 1st position with his MSC Subaru, followed by Mark Raine then David.

Ben did well to insert himself in fourth spot ahead of seasoned racers Bill and Shaun.

Vic also ran his old but rebuilt Carrera 'Mille Miglia' Mercedes, which won two of its heats.

Next race night is on the 14th October. The Mains will be Open Sports and GT cars with any chassis and any motor rpm, supported by either the Club Karts or Porsche 911s.

October 14th report:

Great to see numbers holding up in double figures, with ten racers and an eleventh making race control his own for the night.

Support race - Club Karts

First up were Club Scalextric karts, with David taking the win by just a fifth of a lap from Mark, Vic filling out the podium less than 2 laps further back. The top five were covered by just 3.9 laps, 'not-so-newbie Max' firmly joining that group 2.9 laps ahead of 'the rest'.

'The rest', the next five, were even more tightly grouped, 1.2 laps covering fifth to tenth places. The karts make a great warm up race for the Mains, getting everyone into the groove for the faster owner/driver class.

MAINS - Owner/driver Sports/GT (with unlimited motors and any chassis config.)

The colourful grid was made up from many 1:1 and 1:32 manufacturers with Ninco, Slot.it, NSR and modified Scalextric being represented.

This class usually comprises two rounds combined to give an overall score. Round one is run clockwise, round two anti-clockwise (or V.V.!).

The podium was filled by the same three 'embedded' club members, David, Mark and Vic but this time in a different order. Vic elevated himself to the top step, deposing David to the third, whilst Mark remained consistent, holding second place again. As per the karts, less than four laps covered the leaders with another relative newcomer Ben pushing through to finish within that bracket in fourth place.

Bill marked the divide between the lead group and the rest of the field, running a lonely race midway between the two.

Next meeting: Sat 4th Nov. time 5pm-10pm.

Nov 4th race report

With 10 people attending the track was quickly put together and the practise session began.

Support race: Club Scalextric Motorbikes & sidecars.

With a different way of handling some drivers needed more time to get the hang of three-wheeling on the straights as well as the corners. However, the Club prepared Combo's gave some incredibly close racing.

At the end of the session Race Coordinator showed just a third of a lap covering Alan and Brian tied for sixth and Wayne and Mark tied for seventh, ranking them on screen in order of their fastest laps.

Not so close were the top five who were covered by .... five laps, Mark J coming home first and Ben fifth. Second was David, third Vic and fourth Bill.

Main Race: Nascar, TransAm and American Muscle cars.

With owner prepared cars and the voltage reduced to eleven the field was wide open here.

Although the racing was 'fast and furious' with some great battles the end result was a runaway win for Vic on 78.4 laps. Ben has come on in leaps and bounds though, fighting hard for an excellent second place on 75.9, 4.6 laps ahead of Mark J in third place. David was fourth a solid ten laps ahead of Bill, who had been pre-occupied sorting out an issue with a couple of heats being cut short and having to be re-run. Turned out to be a faulty cable to the DS timer.

Alan, Mark W, Aaron (not having run in the Support class), Wayne and Brian made up the rest of the field.

(Note the variety of cars being run from Carrera, Pioneer and Scalextric. 20k max motor levels the field.)

Next race day is now SUNDAY 17th Dec
N.B With the one-off earlier times of 4pm—9pm.

Support race: Grp 5 club cars.
Mains: Owner/driver Saloon cars with inline chassis and max of 20K motor rpm.

Where? The usual place:

Gt. Whelnetham Community Centre,
Stanningfield Road,
Bury St. Edmunds.
