News Bury St Edmunds Slot Car Club

12th November saw Alan Warwick return after a long absence, marking the possible link-up with a second club just 7 miles away, which was previously unknown to the Great Whelnetham group! Maybe December 5th will see some visitors making the short trek to race on a bigger track?

As it was, the Club Porsches provided some very close racing, Mark taking the win by just seven tenths of a lap from David. 1.2 laps down, Bill and Vic tied for third on 60.6 ahead of Shaun in fifth, as visitor Alan played a strong supporting role in sixth.

With a change to Owner Driver Sports/GT cars Vic fought his way from third equal to top step of the podium, demoting Mark and David to second and third. No ties this time, Shaun moving up the ranks from fourth to fifth, ahead of Bill as visitor Alan once again brought up the rear.

Plenty of time for him - and his fellow club members? - to take revenge on December 5th, now he's a little more familiar with the track.

December 3rd

Feature race: Owner Driver Open Rally cars with inline motors. Max 21,000 rpm.

Due to rampant technical problems and the fixing of the same since, the photo report is late, with just a handful of photos from the December 3rd event, which was 'Totally Rally', the owner/drivers class presenting a good variety of cars to add to the Club Peugeots.

Great to report that the Gremlins have finally been defeated in time for the next meeting on ....

All down to Vic.

I think maybe he enjoys doing them more than the racing itself - or maybe not.  Bigsmile

Saturday 14th Jan. race night

Seven attendees with three being visitors, giving hope for better numbers in the future.

Round One - Club Escorts - built and maintained by Vic.

There was a bit of a whoopsie with the first heat, which had to be abandoned with Vic in the lead. With the PC being down last month the DS Timers had been set to laps, rather than time, the reminder coming just sixteen seconds from the 'usual' PC managed end, as the the heat finished early. It was re-run but ... argh! Thankfully that didn't set the tone for the rest of the night.

Unsurprisingly, the locals filled the top four places, being used to both the cars and track, David taking the top step of the podium by less than half a lap from Vic. Could Vic's potential first heat win have given him overall victory? Mm? Anyway ... behind them there was quite a gap to third place man Bill, who headed a very tight group in the fight for that last step.

Round Two - Owner/Driver Saloons with 20k motors, max.

This saw many different cars racing from an old Audi A4 and Rover SD1 up to more recent Touring cars. Close racing yet again with the winning BMW car, one of three on the grid, being driven by Vic - adding to the weight of 'what might have been' if that original first heat for the Escorts hadn't ended in a re-run.

Unfortunately Philip had to leave before this class where one of the Alans, a visitor, split the locals with a good half lap win over Mark to take second spot. However, Vic was well dialled in and determined to make good after the Escorts, taking the top step by just over three laps.

Saturday 4th Feb. race night

Three classes with three different winners and some very close racing.

All magless as usual the evening started out with a full grid of the club's SCX trucks

Mark took the win by exactly a lap from Shaun, who held David to third spot by just seven tenths of a lap.

The ever-popular Karts proved even closer.

David upped his game here to take the top step by barely a fifth of a lap from Mark, with Vic slotting into third place. A fifth of a lap back Bill and Shaun tied on 69.7 with Alan bringing up the rear.

The Feature Race - owner/driver NASCAR and American Muscle - and in my absence Alan played the supporting role, making last place his own - but it's early days for him at the club, so the only way is UP! Scores were more wide-spread due to car choice and prep, Vic coming to the fore this time to take the top spot from Shaun, who was making his second appearance of the night on the podium, with another second place. Topping them all though, was Mark, who rounded out his first and second place appearances with third here.
