I would like to replace this large Truespeed plug with a thinner one plus I want to add to the cable length.
In my pic the truespeed wires are L =green/yellow R=Blue  Earth=brown, the scalextric controller has red green and black wires.
Can someone please advise what wires  connect to what when I join them up?
It is scalextrix analouge Sport track.

Couldn't you just use an extension cable? Then you don't have to worry about which wire goes where!

I didn't even know you could get such a thing.
I'll try and find one local, not an amazon fan myself.

If there's any sparky minded out there that can help I'd still like to know as the wire I'm cutting is off an old controller so it's not going to waste.

Firstly, I must say that I have no experience with TruSpeed controllers so cannot advise on the hook-up.
I just opened a Scalextric Sport controller and found the colours are used as on my diagram below and I believe that all Sport controllers are the same.
I then found via Google a diagram showing the use of the 3.5mm plug for audio and have annotated the diagram.
Obviously there is a risk of damaging the controller so my suggestion is that you contact Steve at TruSpeed for advice before deciding what to do.

Presumably the controller is an analogue type where the power to the track travels along the cables so using an audio extension with low current capability may result in a voltage drop to the rails, whereas the Sport cable is more or less "fit for purpose".

Hopefully someone with TruSpeed experience can chime in here.

I've used an XLR extension cable without any noticeable drop in current but probably best to check as you suggest.

yes your controller you have taken apart looks exactly the same as the one in my pic.
I have sent Steve an email, hopefully he'll get back to me, I haven't had the same luck with my experience in ordering this controller as everyone else.
Can't win em all.

If you can solder neatly you could either buy enough cable to replace the existing one completely or buy all you need for the extension. Either way you would need to solder on a 3.5mm jack plug (or live with that adaptor thing). Having the same colouring in the cable will make it much easier to get right.

You could use a continuity meter between the plug segment and each wire end in the controller to see what was connected to what.

Hi Leo,
thanks for that, I still won't know what wires to solder where in the jack point.
That's why I wanted to use the old scalextric cable with the jack already in place and was hoping someone could help with what wires solder to what, like mentioned I don't want to get the wires the wrong way around but someone must no it.The soldering bit is the easy bit.
I haven't heard from Steve but to be honest with the experience I've had with buying this controller I didn't think I would.
