Scalextric's last proper modern WRC rally car was the Rallye Monte Carlo 2015 winning Volkswagen Polo R WRC of Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia that appeared in 2016.
Since then, slot rally fans had to wait and wait and wait....
But this week the waiting came to an end with the new Rally Italia Sardegna 2020 winning SCX Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC of Dani Sordo and Carlos del Barrio.
In 2020, the Spaniards only took part in three WRC events.
After a breakdown with an overheated engine in Mexico, they were unbeatable on the Italian island, just like last year.
At Monza, the last WRC event of the season of only seven counting WRC rallies, they scored a fine third place.
It's impressive how SCX has handled the many aerodynamic parts on the body in such a solid way.
The Hyundai is only driven on the rear wheels by a FR42 motor, which is positioned as an inliner.
For the first test run it makes sense to glue the motor with hot glue first.
Here are a few pictures of the new SCX Hyundai World Rally Car:
