Just started a new build from a Hawk body ,kindly sent to me by Gordon .I don't have a before photo but it appears in a post of Gordon Lash ups .
Stripped the paint off using brake fluid which worked well and then primed and painted it RED not ORANGE .I was lucky that Gordon had fitted the glasswork as Hawk kits don't have any ,so I was able to used those as patterns for some new ones ,Purchased some wire wheels from Pendles which set it off nicely ,also got a VAC formed interior for it but had to grind out some oak beams from the inside to get it to fit .More to do but pleased so far
Finally finished the little car ,the glazing was a challenge but I did have the old ones Gordon made as pattern's .Just numbers no sponsored stickers ,nice and simple .Runs well so far ,nothing fell off !!!
I called it a 5000_GT because its a Hawk kit and that's what they call it !!
But manufacturers are known to make mistakes .l do know it would be near on impossible to get another .
Look what turned up on eBay recently
The Hawk Maserati 151/3. Boxed, complete with all instructions and decals. Totally mint except that all parts are off the sprue.
Based on the Maserati 5000 GT V8 engine, and first designed for Le Mans 1962, for the new Experimental 4 Litre class this was an exceedingly fast car..
What to do with it
Not sure really. It is a little under scale, but also of course very light compared to my resin bodied kits. I have no experience of resin casting, so definitely not an option for me. If anyone with the requisite skills fancies casting a few bodies, please send me PM.
Hi Pip ,glad you finally got one .
I was running mine today ,just a few laps ,still goes ok .
I know Lloyd does some body casting ,all1\43 scale ,but as you say it's a small car so he may be able to help .
