Sport World C8310 CD wanted
#11

I ran about 500 laps last night with the Sport World system.

Very interesting and a few points that maybe could be answered
  • It would seem that there is always a residual power on the car as the headlights are lit even if the car is not moving.
  • Dynamic breaking does not seem very strong despite me playing around with the race strategy profiles.
  • I guess I would have liked to have seen a throttle profile that was pretty close to the 60 ohm Scalextric, for an easy migration onto Sport World.
  • Dynamic breaking seems strong in stand alone mode.
I have not figured out how to apply the update disks yet do you have any idea how that took place?

Thanks

A very long time since I did this but I think you put the whole zip folder into the update directory for SportWorld and it sorts itself. No need to extract anything, the update will install the next time you fire up the software. Probably pays to do one update at a time. Go to c:/ program files/scalextric/sportworld/updates. If that doesn't work I haven't got a clue!

Perfect advise, copy one update at a time over into the updates folder and Sport World looks after the rest, check each time that the revision level has been raised.

Mine is at 1.0.5 now.

I have used the Pacer feature this evening and after a bit of getting used to the technicalities it works great.

Thanks for your help.

If only a 1000 of the Sport World units were sold then a lot of people missed out on a great piece of kit.

I have a really fast lap recorded in the Pacer, it is right on the limit of adhesion and runs exactly the same lap after lap.

I am at the point where the car needs preparing for the Pacer at the start of a session, tyres cleaned, braids sorted and everything oiled etc.

I like the fact that the Sport World can just pick up any car (with a black guide flag) and just run with it.

I would be happy if I bought this new now, never mind 15 years ago, a real shame.

Might be worthwhile buying a back up unit, they will become harder to source as time goes by and yours won't last forever. There are a couple on eBay currently at reasonable prices.

My initial euphoria has now been somewhat dented as something has gone wrong in the lane 2 power control.

It is defo something on the control board as I have unplugged all track, it throws an overload as soon as line 2 controller is used, a factory reset brings it back to being full power or off and then the overload throws again.

It is unrelated to the software as it happens in stand alone mode or PC connected.

No worries, I will probably go for one of those on Ebay as my curiosity has been tweaked.

Check the hand controller, they weren't perfect either.

I switched those over it is slot 2 related for sure.

Are the controllers the same as Digital ones?

I have had the unit apart and checked for any obvious faults but nothing, I can see the drive circuits for each slot and they output on the 4 pins on the far right of the connection strip so that made checking somewhat easier.

It is not the end of the World for me, it is all just a bit of fun and I like fiddling with out of date equipment like this.

I believe they are the same as digital ones. I think you are beginning to find out why SportWorld wasn't totally successful. Rofl

I think you are right, like I said the honeymoon period did not last long.

I won one on Ebay now for £20 including carriage.

The one that I am playing with now came from Ebay as well but I get so much good stuff off of Ebay that I don't worry too much about it going belly up. I hold out resonable hope of carrying out a repair as well, my sone is an ace at electronic repairs.
