With the new oXigen app recently being released, and the nRF Toolbox app still in the mix (?), is there a simple guide to take you through the right sequence and techniques to install firmware onto a C and an SCP (2) controller?

The Slot.it crew have recently updated the various oXigen manuals (
http://slot.it/oxigen/) which is what I used...
- Base O2 Manual - overview and pairing process etc
- O2 Car Chip C - using nRF Toolbox app with the C and B2 chips.
You do need the oXigen dongle and bootloader to update firmware on the SCP and SCP2. The bootloader has just been rewritten by the RCS64 team and the documentation on the Slot.it site hasn't been updated. If your SCP2 is fairly recent, the firmware should be perfectly fine for now.
The same with the C chip - it is loaded with O2 firmware by default. It will work, even if it's not the very latest firmware version. The crucial thing is to have the chip set up with the correct AC or DC setting for your track (SSD = AC) and be able to pair the chip to the controller. The rest is useful to know how to do, but not essential.

Alternatively, have some one who knows "how-to" , do this process for you.
I've never done any firmware stuff for team KesselRun or team Gas-Monkeys, despite having the dongle as part of our team kit.
We just turn up at a Rockingham oxigen event and Matt Tucker processes us just like all of the other teams.
Everyone gets flashed with the latest "known good" firmware on chips and controllers whether we want to or not.

I don't have a dongle. Who knows how long the O2 cartridge has been on the shop shelf. Chip had SSD software loaded on it by me, but I am now going pure oXigen. Screw swapped back to DC position.
Just thought I would ask before delving into the dark world of firmware updating!
I was hoping the slot.it app streamlined the process...

No, it hasn't taken me this long to get the firmware sorted! Although mid week it did feel like it might...
There's nothing like a deadline to get you motivated. Gary Skipp/DiSCA are running a 3hr oXigen event in Derby on 31st October and I have entered as part of a 2 man team. My teammate is building the car up, and my task was to get the controller and chip organised.
I am pleased to report that, with a bit of assistance from Mr Flippant, I achieved the following competencies, and can answer questions on the topic until my memory of the traumas involved begin to fade: -
- Uploading firmware onto a C-chip via the Nordic app
- Registering the C-chip using the Slot.it app
- Installing a battery box onto an SCP2
- Getting the SCP2 to communicate with the C-chip
No dongle was involved, and I have no idea what firmware the SCP is running, but it works, and that's not a bad starting point!
