I am sorry to hear of the passing of Murray Walker. What a wonderful career he has had and will be sorely missed. GO, GO, GO, gone, but you will never be forgotten Murray.

Very sad news for many of us who enjoyed his commentaries, his humour, his enthusiasm, passing of another great motor racing character.

Very sad news. Certainly a wonderful life lived and I have lots of amazing memories... from watching Saturday afternoon club races on TV as a kid, 80 & 90s F1 as a teenager and young adult - and nowadays his voice sampled in slot car race management programmes. Murray's voice was the running commentary of most of my motorsport obsessions, which are an important part of my life. That voice won't fade.

That is sad news.
His commentaries were on a different level, as if it seemed you visited the RAC Rally 1985 yourself:

When I think of Murray Walker commentating, the thing I remember the most is James Hunt politely correcting him all the time!
I love puttering with gears

Murray may have got carried away at times but he was a genuine enthusiast. I met him once when I was sharing a stand with Keith Arney of Arney and Taylor at the Racing Car Show at Olympia. Murray knew Keith quite well and he stopped and chatted to both of us for a while. He seemed a genuinely nice man. RIP Murray.

Farewell then Murray Walker, the voice of Motorsport, but your words will echo down the years on many a slot car race computer, including my own - 'One light, two lights..................Go! Go! Go!'
Almost certainly the last of the truly great sporting voices to go to the great commentary box in the sky. Long gone are the days when you could recognise their sport by listening to the commentator reading a weather report.
The list is long but includes Brian Johnston, John Arlott, Richie Benaud (cricket); Whispering Ted Lowe (snooker); Peter O’Sullivan (horse racing), Bill McLaren (Rugby Union); Eddie Waring (rugby league); Dan Maskell (tennis); Kenneth , 'they think it's all over', Wolstenholme (soccer); Peter Alliss (golf); Harry Carpenter (boxing) and finally dear old Murray.
Just about all we are left with today are rent a gob nonentities who babble on about nothing relevant and could be commentating about the world conker championships for all I know.
And Finally ........
there really is only one tune to play as they convey you to your final resting place:

Sad loss of a legend, IMO.

One more slipped under my radar but just heard that another legendary voice, Brian Jones, succumbed to Covid at the age of 85 on New Year's day. Lead commentator at Brands Hatch for the best part of 40 years he also covered all the Birmingham Super Prix, the Silverstone 24 Hours and the BTCC from 1994 to 1996.
Not as excitable as Murray but with a golden voice and anybody who attended the Formula Ford Festival during its heyday will have his "high, wide and handsome into Paddock’ and ‘up the hill to Druids the Hairpin’ permanently etched into their memory banks.
