The long-awaited book "Slot Car Dreams" became available a short while ago. The slot-car retailers Electric Dreams are now featuring a brief promotional video by Philippe himself.

Price in USA - $129 hardback, $74.95 paperback. Equates to £94 and £54.63 at current exchange rate. Not unreasonable for such a large, high quality production but...........
I can guarantee that when it is for sale in the UK it will be priced at £129 and £74.95!

Hello Brian,
Sadly yes, that is very likely. Lets hope for an ethical UK distributor.

Guys - maybe I am crazy - but I oredered it - so you want to know the really bad news?????
$129 book plus $64.95 postage (only one offered is signed for 6 day arrival) and I will guarantee that I will pay at least another 60 EUROS postage handling and taxes when it arrives....
Sigh.......
Well at least the book is a gift from my wife for my upcoming birthday. I didnt have the heart to tell her all the additional charges which I shall be footing the bill for

I was sorely tempted to nudge Ronnie as it's also my birthday next week
However, the postage and extras just made it seem too much for me. I'll wait a while until they find a distributer over here I think. There was talk about Electric Dreams holding the postage to a nominal sum but that seems, unsurprisingly, to have been forgotten about.

Gordon will let you know if the book lives up to the hype when it arrives.

It shouldn't be as bad as you think Anthony. No import duties to EU on goods below €150 from USA. Books are also zero rated for VAT in Belgium like the UK I believe.

@Brian - you were right - it arrived yesterday (have not been able to look at it as it is a birthday present) and no added charges.
What is strange is over the last few years I have bought a lot of 60's slot magazines from the states and every single one of them I had to pay duties on.....

Hello Brian, has the situation changed in recent times, I thought the threshold for items was 30 GB Pounds? I have not bought anything of such value from USA recently but a few years ago I had to pay import/tax duty on a model car.

I don't think it has changed recently but import/customs duties do not apply to consignments from USA below €150, except for perfume, tobacco, and alcohol products.
However, don't get customs duties mixed up with VAT which is entirely different, payable on goods over €22 and levied at each country's individual rate. You may have been charged VAT for your model car but not customs duties.
Above refers to EU not current UK situation which differs slightly.
