HO Drag Proxy 9-10 February 2021 RACE REPORT
#41

Round 2

Jane beat Rebecca by 0.060 in the first race. It was a comfortable run - Jane clocking 0.652 and Rebecca 0.711.

I said there'd be some close races this evening - and Bill had quite a fright against Sue. It wasn't the greatest start from the stocker and Sue's Audi kept pace down the strip. They crossed within millimetres of each other - Bill winning by 0.008 of a second... 0.691 to 0.700.

Jerome's Veyron qualified three places ahead of Alan's Audi, but it was the west country R8 that took a close race by 0.021 seconds - 0.677 to 0.694.

We haven't had one of these for a while, but the black and white Audi R8 GT3s gave us a dead heat - Jeff closing down Clive on the line...

The re-run went with qualifying form - Clive winning by a slim 0.010 second margin. His ET was 0.650 to Jeff's 0.660. A very close shave for the second-place qualifier.

The final second round race saw minor upset - sixth qualifier Iain beating fifth qualifier Hank by 0.024. It looked more comfortable than it was. Iain's ET was 0.694 to Hank's 0.719.

Round 3 + Semi

Jane had a bye in round 3 and decided to run solo - setting a time of 0.636, the fastest of the evening so far.

The first race saw Bill and Alan fight it out to see who would meet Jane in the semi final. Third vs seventh qualifier went the way of the outsider - Alan's Audi winning by 0.024 seconds. The ETs were 0.674 to 0.695. Alan would need to find some extra pace to have a chance of making the final round.

Straight through to the final was second qualifier Clive. Iain had a great start, but then got bogged down in the latter stages. A relieved Clive overtook the Jag and won by 0.037 seconds. Their ETs 0.679 to 0.715. Clive would have a bye in the next round.

Semi Final

Although not her quickest run, Jane had too much for Alan in the semi. Alan's Audi got off the line slightly quicker, but Jane's Nissan was through the finish line 0.028 seconds ahead. Jane's ET was 0.651 to Alan's 0.677.

For the second time today, we had our top two qualifiers in the final. Could the TQ win it this time?

And this is what happened...

It was neck-and-neck off the line. Jane's Nissan got it done in the early stages, pulling out a small lead...

Although Clive's Audi finished the stronger, the gap was 0.013 seconds at the finish...

A close final that delighted the fans...

Wow! Congratulations to Jane on yet another Street Stock win. It won't be a clean sweep of the Winter Series, but that's three in a row now...

Ladder and full data coming soon...

Thanks for all your efforts today Woodcote.

Jane's car seems to be holding it's form...just. But it somehow manages to avoid having any bad runs. My car, on the other hand...

I love puttering with gears

And more fun now...

Match Racing Round 2

Alan's white Corvette had a much better run today, getting revenge for yesterday's defeat with a 0.020 win over Bill's red 'Vette. Their ETs were 0.442 and 0.460. That takes us to a third round decider after the 4-Gear qualifying.

It was a very close run thing between Iain and Clive yesterday - the Henry J winning by 0.006 of a second. It was another close one today, but the same result - Clive's winning margin 0.019 to give him the match 2-0. The times were a 0.460 for Clive and 0.476 for Iain.

Rebecca also wrapped up her match 2-0. Andy's Escort was quicker - a 0.502 - but Rebecca's 0.485 gave her the win by 0.016.

There's some work to do before the qualifying and ladder format at the season finale next month, but it looks like a competitive six-car field Thumbup

Nostalgia 4-Gear Qualifying

I have to say it's a bit nippy in the race room today. The 4-Gears all got a good warm-up and it was a close and competitive qualifying session.

Here are the results...

The eliminators will take place pretty soon, but we'll have the match racing decider between Alan and Bill first. The coin has been tossed and Alan will remain in the right-hand lane...

Bill beat Alan to the finish line by 0.005 of a second! Side-by-side down the strip, their ETs were 0.444 and 0.449. Bill takes the match 2-1.

That got the crowd buzzing Thumbup

Nostalgia 4-Gear Funny Car Eliminators Round 1

The nine-car ladder meant top-qualifier Bill had a solo run, clocking 0.823 seconds.

The first of the four races saw Alan surprise Pete - sixth beating fifth qualifier by 0.019 seconds. Their ETs were 0.810 and 0.830.

Second qualifier Rebecca beat Doug's Mustang by a comfortable 0.168 second margin - 0.817 to 0.984.

In the bottom half of the ladder, Andy's Camaro beat David by 0.085. The ETs 0.840 and 0.924.

Finally for the first round, Clive created an upset by pipping Iain by 0.010 seconds. Iain clocked 0.855 to Clive's 0.848.

Round 2 + Semi

Bill lined up against Alan in the first second round race...

And what a shock! Alan lead Bill all the way down the strip and crossed the line 0.042 seconds ahead. He also set a sub-0.800 time of 0.790 - the Charger has really discovered some pace.

Another shock in the bottom half of the ladder - Clive beats Andy by 0.023 seconds. Clive's run of 0.815 was more than enough compared to Andy's slow 0.837. Clive was straight through to the final!

Semi-Final

Just one semi and Alan went sub-0.800 again. But it wasn't enough - Rebecca set the fastest time so far to win by a slender 0.014 seconds. The ETs were 0.782 and 0.797.

That gave us two Mustangs -  Rebecca vs Clive -  in the final...
